NASA outlines Moon Base plan, targets multiple commercial landers
At a May 26 news conference NASA unveiled detailed Moon Base plans that focus on a sustained presence near the lunar South Pole and named multiple commercial lander missions targeted before the end of 2026. The agency outlined a three-phase roadmap, awarded initial contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to four U.S. companies including Blue Origin, and said the first three robotic landers will deliver rovers, drones, and cargo to scout sites. NASA said those uncrewed missions will run science and technology demonstrations and build logistics ahead of a crewed Artemis landing planned for 2028. The plan aims to shift NASA from periodic visits to an enduring lunar hub for long-term science, resource testing, and commercial activity on the Moon.
