007 First Light opens to strong reviews
IO Interactive's James Bond origin game 007 First Light opened to strong reviews, with outlets such as VGC and Vice calling it the best Bond game since GoldenEye. Critics praised the game's writing, stealth systems, and blockbuster set pieces while some reviewers and players flagged uneven technical polish and the inability to disable auto-aim. Featuring a major airplane set piece, an Omega watch selection for Bond, and a Lana Del Rey theme song, First Light blends cinematic spectacle and stealth to become a serious game-of-the-year contender and a fresh blueprint for future Bond titles.
I’m only a few hours into 007: First Light (review code went out very late) but I *love* it so far. Delightful mashup of Hitman and Uncharted, with impressive storytelling chops. Been a minute since I’ve been this into a triple-A game. And I’ve never even seen a James Bond movie
"And I’ve never even seen a James Bond movie"
Oh this is pretty good to hear I'll have to keep an eye on- you WHAT?
Would you say this game has a "license to thrill?" Please say it we need a pull quote
Jason, you've never seen a James Bond movie? How?
As someone who doesn't particularly care about James Bond but loves both Hitman and Uncharted, this is exactly what I wanted to read before jumping in today.
I highly recommend Casino Royale!
This was how I felt playing Indiana Jones last year.
Jason you can't just drop that megaton at the end of your skeet so casually
it turns out i did review that bond game after all! it's got a bunch of charm and excellent little moments that manage to shine through through a bland blockbuster structure. which is pretty much a direct adaptation of both the strengths and flaws of your average Bond Film:
'20-step bowtie QTE' is exactly the stupidest thing I ever could've heard of, and even if this game probably isn't for me, damn, that highlight makes me want to give it a look.
the section in here about how even as games hit the graphical fidelity of movies things still feel missing is making me wonder why there isn't more fmv making its way back in. if there was a flyover shot of london in here that was filmed and not made, would anyone blink?
Nobody does it better Makes me feel sad for the rest
This pretty much sounds exactly what I was worried the game was gonna turn out like. Bummer! Ah well, time to reinstall hitman
way better then i was expecting tbh
I’ve finished 007 First Light and can confidently say this is one of the best action games of the generation for me. Really remarkable game that seamlessly stirs so many styles into a James Bond cocktail. The nearly six year wait was worth it, almost unbelievably so.
this is my first time seeing gameplay for this. this is slick as FUCK?
This post has moved the game from the "will check out later" list to "imminent purchase" list.
Seems all the soldiers are graduates of the Stevie Wonder school of marksmanship.
These many stylistic elements combined into a James Bond cocktail... Surely they are shaken, not stirred?
YES - bum rush a guy spraying you with a machine gun!
Right down to the henchmen having Stormtrooper aim
007, try to remember the basics of CQC
Looks like a nice mix up of Hitman and Uncharted.
Oh neat, not just guns but hand to hand combat with traps and gadgets - I can see a few influences on display! It certainly looks nice and fluid, might push me out of my usual 'hunker down and pew pew pew' habits!
Game Informer will not have a review of 007 First Light quite yet, as code was delivered extremely late, essentially giving us half a business day before a holiday weekend in the US. We’ve been playing it, but I wasn’t about to ask someone to break up family plans to get it done.
The right move! Good stuff as always from GI.
Love to see a people-first attitude in the workplace, especially in the US, well done.
Does that ever improve press coverage as a whole when the deliverables come so late from the publishers?
When the boss tells you to get to work on a holiday

Glad to see my gut was right. The Hitman devs making a Bond game seemed like a no brainer.
Certainly looks hopeful, post World of Assassination IO should be back in the groove of releasing bangers and this certainly indicates its banger.
Immediately adding this game to my wishlist.
