Stephen Colbert appears on Monroe public-access show with Jack White

musicMay 24, 2026495,247

Stephen Colbert taped a Monroe community-access episode titled "Only In Monroe, May 22, 2026" the day after his Late Show finale, appearing alongside musician Jack White and actor Jeff Daniels. Colbert released the recorded episode under that title, preserving the taped community-access format rather than a network studio broadcast. The low-key appearance shows Colbert shifting from national late-night television toward smaller, community-rooted projects and continued collaborations with high-profile guests like Jack White.

A day after The Late Show ended, Colbert hosted an episode of public access program Only In Monroe, reviving his 11-year-old gag. How bad is CBS/Paramount taking it? They issued copyright complaints for a show they don't own. 🤣 CBS would hate it if you watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DlF...

Paramount is apparently trying to suppress copies of "Only in Monroe" from appearing on other social platforms by filing frivolous copyright notices, even though the show was produced by a public access TV channel and doesn't use their intellectual property...

Only in Monroe must be doing NUMBERS whilst CBS…uh, does whatever it’s doing nobody even knows or cares lmao. Got ‘em.

CBS paid for it & non-legit pages were getting more hits than the Colbert or Monroe legit videos. CBS is no longer enforcing copyright.

I think you're confused. The video is still up on Colbert's YouTube channel. The one that got taken down was someone reposting it as their own content on YouTube (which is what's supposed to happen).

ben39

Are you sure that is what’s happening here? As the video is still up youtu.be/jJTXB5uT_C4 And shared on the cbs owned Late Show channel, it seems like it only being protected from duplication uploads, not actually blocked.

Adam Rose30

Article answers some questions but raises more! Why would Colbert do it financed/produced by CBS? My guess: Maybe he needed to pretape while still under contract. Otherwise not great look. I worked at CBS/Paramount 7 years. Was point person to post Colbert's web content first half of his run...

Kyh921

So it's that they don't want Colbert doing ANYTHING at all, it's punitive to a draconian level

Jay Whozblue20

I watched it. Funny as hell. Colbert is the hottest comic in the World. He easily gets a new job. Maybe abroad where Orangie can't stop him.

pndodge.bsky.social20

So… yeah, I canceled my Paramount + subscription.

dayfud.bsky.social18

Watched it. Loved it. Shared it. Will share it more.

pattycake12

i've watched it twice! It's hysterical! I don't understand how CBS or Paramount has any say in what he does now.

Raphaël Ambrosius Costeau12

Know what? Knowing how fucking shit the bots running YouTube work, they saw a video with easily recognizable celebrity Stephen Colbert and just flagged it as CBS property.

Rebecca St. Louis 🇨🇦🇺🇸12

I live in Monroe, i definitely watched it! It was a good show!

Jan🇵🇦🇨🇦🇺🇲(Don't add me to Packs!)11

I watched it yesterday. It's really fun, enjoyable, old-fashioned TV.

CuriouslyCory11

I would love it if this backfired in a huge way. False dmca claims can result in serious consequences. Trolls don't care but this is filed by CBS official.

Jenn Of Ark10

Please tell me Monroe Community Media can sue them for fraudulent complaints/falsely claiming ownership of MCM's IP.

Wait, what?!9

"I've never done that with a girl, or a person". 🤣🤣🤣🤣

peggyrose.bsky.social6

CBS doesn’t want us to just hate them; they want us TO FUCKING DESPISE THEM.

Liberty View6

Hilarious! By the way... "Economic Decision??" Colbert shows you can do a talk show on television for practically nothing. If it was a question of production budget, CBS could have simply reduced that to whatever they were comfortable with. No, they WANTED to cancel Colbert for politics, not $$$.

nightowlmike.bsky.social6

This is the reason why David Letterman, when he left NBC for CBS, insisted on owning his own show and intellectual material. NBC wouldn't let him do any of his old bits on CBS. Too bad that Colbert wasn't able to do that.

MArll6

It was absolutely hilarious. Colbert in top form.

kindnesswins.bsky.social5

I did watch it--it was fucking hysterical!🤣🤣

Trevor M.5

CBS thinks they literally own Colbert, like as a human being, Im fairly certain.

📎Sprout5

Pathetic, greedy little assholes, aren’t they?

mylittlecorner.bsky.social5

The “Scardy-cats” that preemptively bent the knee to the mango Mussolini are now whining because trump STILL takes a dump on CBS every chance he gets.. so NOW… THEY are the victims? Boo fuQing hooooooooo!

Undersecretary Of The Dept Of Please-God-Not-These-Clowns-Again.5

That’s it. I’m gonna watch it again.

Graeme Phillips5

The entire hour was funny as hell This is so pathetic. @cbsnews.com you need to cover this! 😆

dipradan.bsky.social5

They probably didn't like it when the band played Uncleared copyright music on Colbert's last episode.

pattycake4

and then they could barely be understood because of all the peanut butter in their mouths. And then what was the reference to the Iran war? omg and poor Genevieve!

Bill4

It was hilarious. I smiled for hours after watching it.

AndrewKaiko4

.... what sense d---.... ... YOU CAN'T CONTROL A SHOW YOU DON'T OWN THE RIGHTS TO! WHAT COPYRIGHT ARE THEY THINKING OF?!??

Discordian (not the app)4

Yes, CBS is a pack of petty corporate cowards, but a) they're hardly alone in that, just really visible rn; & b) they are able to be like this because of the horrible bullshit that is the DMCA (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital...). Our society needs to do better as a whole, not just punish CBS+friends.

Amy Gordon4

It’s funny. Also cool. Jack White provides musical interludes with a reel-to-reel tape recorder and an eighties boombox. Jeff Daniels and Colbert make (and eat) pita, peanut butter, potato chip and barbecue sauce sandwiches. And much more!

romesco-nuts.bsky.social3

It was a great show. I think I saw Bigfoot at the end.

pattycake3

Jack was all I'll bite the end of those hotdogs and drink that shot but I'm too full from the hotdogs to take a bite of that potato chip pita sandwich. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

🌱Green Grandma 🐝3

It was hilarious. Would love to see so much more.

Cheeky Alpha Monkey3

So they’re trying to claim Stephen Colbert or his name, as their property?

dmgold3

Screamingly funny. Do not miss.

Anodyne Handle3

I am snorting and laughing as I watch this

Russell Wortham3

This for real? I watched it yesterday and NOW CBS wants to come after a public access station?

semperloquatius.bsky.social3

How do you know CBS/Paramount issued complaints? Looks more as if the YouTube algorithm identified Colbert's name and assumed it was a Paramount property and therefore issued the statement.

Rick does Math and Stuff2

Looking forward to another explanation about how Colbert was canceled because "it was losing money!" as the top-rated show in its time period. When talk shows are literally the cheapest type of programming to produce.
