Lupita Nyong'o defends casting in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey
Lupita Nyong'o defended her casting as Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, saying "Our cast is representative of the world." Her role drew public attacks from Elon Musk and other critics WHO objected to a Black actress playing an iconic mythic figure. Nyong'o added "The criticism will exist whether I engage with it or not" while promoting the film ahead of its July 16 theatrical release. The exchange matters because Nolan's global blockbuster will shape mainstream portrayals of classic characters and WHO audiences see in those parts.
Lupita Nyong’o responds to rightwing criticism of The Odyssey: ‘Our cast is representative of the world’
Still waiting for these creeps to cite their biological authority and give a precise description of the expected physical traits of someone who hatches out of an egg laid by an Aetolian princess impregnated by a god in the form of a swan.
Not the first to observe it, but a lot of men from around the world are certainly fighting over her, which probably makes her the most qualified Helen of Troy that’s ever been cast.
I rarely post topically, but this makes me SMDH. It doesn’t matter if she is black, white, green or purple, she is an incredibly talented actor who should never have to justify any role to lobotomised, racist chuds. She shouldn’t waste the time or mental energy on these numbskulls.
Tell to them KMBA - life too short, enjoy it while it last!
She is so beautiful. But shes also magnetic. Great casting.
Lupita Nyong'o is more beautiful than Elon Musk. And smarter. And she has more friends. And more fans. And she dresses better. And she doesn't have to pay for sex. She is far superior in every conceivable way to that effing white supremacist.
People seem to forget that Hollywood movies are made this way because they reflect the US population (to some extent). This isn't a Greek movie about Greek mythology. It is an American movie about Americans pretending to be Greeks, making a movie about Greek mythology.
Annoyed all the people that it's good to annoy
One of the things I’ve failed to understand with the right wing meltdown about Nolan’s Odyssey, is who the fuck in their right mind doesn’t think Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely gorgeous? That woman is fine!
but like I said the other day, NBC cast Vanessa Williams in The Odyssey in 1997 and no one gave a shit because this outrage is manufactured by racist incel billionaires from South Africa who no longer touch grass.
I worked with her briefly right before covid shut everything down. She is beyond stunning. Be-fucking-yond
Hardly my most intellectual thought but whenever I see right-wing men freaking out about a beautiful non-white actress I usually think something along the lines "sucks for you, loser, but this is 100% a 'you' problem so how about you go sulk quietly."
She's gorgeous as fuck, and from every interview I've seen with her she's also world-class thoughtful and wildly intelligent. She's a true 10.
they kept a piece of hate mail the network got from some guy in Alabama over the Kirk/Uhura kiss he said he was opposed to miscegenation but otoh Uhura is gorgeous so he understands in this instance
I like to think there’s one dopey sincere hater out there whose only exposure to her is watching The Force Awakens and is like, “Maz Kanata, beautiful? I don’t get it”
This was me during Greatest Showman when Zendaya was too brown for Zac Efron’s family.
My only opinion on Nolan's 'Odyssey' is, "Why are they making yet another adaptation of this?"
