The Mandalorian and Grogu opens; Pedro Pascal surprises fans at Disneyland
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu opened in theaters and IMAX this weekend, bringing Grogu and Din Djarin's world back to the big screen. Critics praised the film's action, fun, and Grogu moments while criticizing uneven pacing and a TV-episode feel. Pedro Pascal made a surprise in-person appearance at Disneyland to celebrate the release and greet park visitors. The theatrical rollout marks a major Star Wars TV-to-cinema push, with Grogu-centered storytelling positioned to drive mainstream interest beyond streaming.
MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is a Saturday afternoon matinee movie if ever there was one. Favreau wears his influences on his sleeve with Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, The Muppet movies, and Flash Gordon all poking their heads out. It's a love letter to serial sci-fi. A flawed but fun, goofy summer movie.
We’re taking the kids to see it tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun pulp sci-fi adventure.
Exactly! Jon Favreau understands the exact same influences that Lucas was drawing from. It's not "science fiction", it's not important cinema, and it damn sure isn't the basis of a religion…it's a silly action adventure serial!
Nauled it. It's a great "first Star Wars" movie for kids. Even the poster screams Saturday Matinee. Not epic, but a ton of fun.
There's so much Yojimbo in it, too.
This was my basic expectation for this, pulp fun
The "bad" reviews of Mando say it is a fun diversion for a few hours, it's like two episodes with a bigger budget, and it doesn't connect all that much to the larger saga. Whatever. Don't threaten me with a good time. I might have a beer and a burger too. Sounds like exactly my speed this week.
Literally seeing it Saturday afternoon.
Don't forget The French Connection! (I found it rather underwhelming myself, but it's fine)
Sounds great. I've been pretty negative about the whole concept of this movie, and both me and my 11 year old kid were "meh" about the trailer, but I grew up on Star Wars and I really, truly want it to be good.
Sometimes, movies can just be fun. This is one of those times.
I’m tired of the world around us, and I’m tired of everything sucking so much. That's why I need “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” It's about the only good thing happening in this world, and I refuse to let anyone take that from me. This is the way: www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...
This is exactly why I’m ready for some popcorn fueled excitement tonight
I feel this!! I’ve been coping for the past year by reading every Seanan McGuire book I can get my hands on.
Dude, I have a cousin named Stu as well. Actually it is stewart but we always call him Stu or sometimes Stewie. Either way just thought you would like to know.
The talking sheep were very entertaining.
Mandalorian and Grogu was amazing, I am ecstatic, the naysayers simply Do Not Understand the Genius. This is not a bit, I sincerely fucking loved it and I am *certain* an enormous amount of thought and work went into it that deserves recognition
Also, listen, do me this favor. Do not gaslight me about whether it's clearly referencing the Matrix. It is clearly referencing the Matrix. I do not mean this in a plot way. I mean this in a cinematography, blocking, staging, music, and color grading way. I'm not crazy and I'm not bullshitting
Ty for the great review. Mando and Grogu going off is a cornerstone of my Summer Movie Draft.
This is not a bit, lol.
*Lucille slowly closing the door* but REALLY?
