DOJ creates $1.8B anti-weaponization fund after Trump drops IRS suit

newsMay 18, 2026483,012

The Justice Department created a $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" settlement fund as a condition of President Donald Trump voluntarily dropping his multi-billion-dollar lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns. The agreement establishes a claims process to compensate people WHO say they were harmed by government "weaponization," requires quarterly reporting and audits to DOJ, and keeps individual payment records confidential. The fund matters because it channels nearly $1.8 billion of federal money into a new compensatory mechanism that can benefit Trump allies and January 6, related defendants and raises legal and congressional oversight questions about large executive settlements.

A “fun” thing about the 1776 number is it makes it more clear how much the settlement agreement is corrupt. Todd Blanche signed his name to an official government document claiming this figure was “based on the projected valuation of future claimants’ claims,” which is clearly, obviously, a lie.

A. The Settlement Agreement in Trump: Internal Revenue Service, No. 1:26-cv-20609 (S.D.
Fla.). has created the Anti-Weaponization Fund (the "Fund"). The Settlement Agreement directed the Attorney General to issue an order establishing funding and any other relevant requirements for the Fund
B. Capitalized terms in this document shall have the same meaning as in the Settlement
Agreement.
C. Within 60 days of the Effective Date, the United States shall provide the U.S. Department of the Treasury with all necessary forms and documentation to direct a payment of $1,776,000,000 to an account for the sole use by the Anti-Weaponization Fund (Designated Account"). The corpus of the Anti-Weaponization Fund's funding does not represent the value of any claim by Plaintiffs, but rather is based on the projected valuation of future claimants' claims.

They don’t care. They can brazenly lie and break the law and they won’t be held accountable. Either because of pardons, or somehow holding on to power in 2029. Or both.

Corey Rayburn Yung47

Blanche had to override Stephen Miller, who kept insisting $1.488 million would be sufficient.

The cute numbering is the kind of thing that a good court would seize on as evidence of arbitrariness, just sayin’

Real Benisons12

The message I got from the $1.776 # is that Trump wants to define the J6 rioters as real Americans and anyone who crosses him or opposes him as less American And the 1.7 and 1.8 headlines are about sanding down the roughest edges of Trump’s juvenile nihilism

Especially so considering that the value of the claimants’ claims is $0.00

The Samuelation11

This! I'm sick of the meme numbers. We have a candidate for governor in Michigan promising to save families $4747 in taxes. And I've talked to far too many people that earnestly believe that's a real estimate, not just a stupid homage to trump

Obscurem 🍋10

Another fun thing is that the Judge ruled there is no settlement. So whatever that slush fund is, it's not a settlement. bsky.app/profile/kati...

So ... OUR tax money going to pay the insurrectionists we also paid to investigate, indict and imprison. Lovely.

'1776' - we remember👇 Not a coincidence.

I don’t think we need to call it the “settlement agreement”—that alone gives it too much credence. There is no settlement, no dispute, no agreement between adversaries. It is an open-air conspiracy to loot the Treasury.

JN Hall3

Blanche can't possibly be doing this without having a pardon in his pocket along with some kind of pedophilia blackmail involving the DC Bar It's so obviously unethical and criminal and both flagrantly in the open

Jared Friedman 🇺🇦3

What the hell is it with these dorks and the clever-number thing? This is exactly like Elon and all his "420.69" shit. It is just the saddest attempt at humor, from genuinely humorless creeps and losers.

Christian Petersen2

Why do we have to follow the rules while they shit all over them?

Robert Fields2

They sure are having fun with our taxes. Why not get Elon or Jeff or Mark to foot that bill.

Jason Cross2

This is a payoff of well over a million dollars to every person charged. If you assumed every single person charged was "weaponized" against or whatever, it's still an INSANE payout.

DOJ sets up corrupt $1.776B "Anti-Weaponization" compensation fund, ostensibly linked to collusive settlement of Trump's meritless $10B suit against IRS. Acting AG Todd Blanche directly involved. www.justice.gov/opa/media/14...

This raises some questions. p. 3 says it doesn’t represent the value of any claim by Plaintiff but is based on projected valuation of future claims. This is facially inconsistent w using the judgment fund, which is for final judgments and settlements.

Todd Blanche is an extremely corrupt mob lawyer. Nothing more. He's a very bad man.

David R Matthew7

Stealing from the tax payers out in the open to fund criminals and gift pardons, everyday I think justice and democracy is dead, Trump outdoes himself again

gracegeorge23.bsky.social7

Sue them!!! How can they steal American taxpayer money to give to criminals??? The corruption is off the charts. Blanche should be disbarred. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lea Leander 6

I'm confused. So trump said 'I'll drop the IRS lawsuit if you give me a slush fund for supporters.' And we did. How is this legal?

JEB4

They need to reserve about 1.6 billion dollars of that money to pay off the victims of Trump's weaponization of the Justice Department once he is gone.

MKSutherland4

They tried to steal an election, and now they are stealing our money and giving it to the people who betrayed us all! There needs to be a Tea in the Boston Harbor level of response! #WeCantAffordTrump

Carl S. Ergo Sum3

What state is responsible for revoking Blanche’s bar license?

Kim Eckert3

I've said it before; if there is a penny in America's treasury, Trump is going to spend it on himself and friends.

Cantard3

"1,776" [Page erupts into flame from the force of my glare.]

Stable Glennius2

Holy shit. Read paragraph “D”. It’s in plain English that this money can vanish and nobody need worry about where $1.8B went.

Founders said to start over if tyranny \ non representative government so they just gave people more incentive.🤔 LFG!👏😂👏
