UK 'National Conversation' launches, Sajid Javid to lead

newsMay 18, 20261573

Sajid Javid and Jon Cruddas have launched the National Conversation, a UK-wide commission run from Oxford University that invites citizens to submit voice notes and online survey responses about their communities and priorities. Researchers will analyse submissions for the language people choose, the emotional register, and the texture of how they describe local life to generate policy ideas aimed at rebuilding social cohesion across Britain. Contributions are anonymous and designed to capture everyday speech and local experience rather than formal written submissions. The methodology, including automated analysis of voice notes, has attracted both support for surfacing diverse perspectives and concern that machine processing could misread nuance as outputs are used to inform government and civic policy proposals.
