Iran war disrupts Gulf energy and global markets
The Iran war has triggered strikes and shipping disruptions in the Gulf that halted Qatar's liquefied natural gas exports and forced tankers to reroute or delay shipments. Brent crude and other oil benchmarks climbed, tightening energy markets and raising wholesale prices for power plants and industrial users. War-risk insurance and freight rates rose, increasing costs for container and tanker operators and prompting longer routes and delivery delays. Because Europe and Asia rely on Qatari LNG for power, the supply squeeze and higher fuel and freight costs will feed into global inflation and higher consumer energy bills.
“The U.S. military official said the war has left a more hardened, resilient adversary…[and] instilled a belief that Iran can successfully resist, whether by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, attacking energy infrastructure in Gulf states or threatening U.S. aircraft.” www.nytimes.com/2026/05/18/u...
Trump's steely resolve must be terrifying the Iranians.
Iran has taken a few haymakers from the United States and they live to fight another day. And they’ve learned that they don’t need a nuclear weapon when they can control Strait of Hormuz and cripple the world.
"threatening U.S. aircraft." How dare Iran threaten the people invading and bombing them!!!
Rachel Reeves will scrap plans this week to increase fuel duty by 5p a litre from September amid mounting concerns about the impact of the Iran war on the cost of living www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
Long past time the freeze on fuel duty was scrapped and the tax on them oil companies increased. We're going to bust through that 1.5 degree barrier soon and on target for 4 which will finish our civilisation if it happens.
Ah Hum Climate Catastrophe! See what that does to living
It’ll make no difference as the fuel companies will keep it for extra profits
I hope she offsets that loss to the Treasury with a wealth tax!
Now that Starmer has saved his leadership & will be PM until the next GE, this is a smart move!
Trickle down! Average price increase 28p a liter, since Iran conflict. You get 5p rebate.BP profit first quarter up by 3.8 billion up by 1.5bilion. Rip off Britain !
If members of the government had to pay their own way, we’d soon see the price of everything go down.
Oops, there go the projected tax’ billions straight into Nirwana. But LBF: given that Sir Keir has neither a plan nor a clue how to fix the economy, merely not making the cost-of-living crisis worse is probably the best we can expect from him. I would not hold my breath for much beyond that.
It not just that they're FUCKING USELESS, it's that there's no platform on which to call them fucking useless that they have to actually acknowledge. They can just continue being fucking useless and do high-vis and helmet photoshoots and roll up their sleeves and say words like "Delivering!"
If they really wanted to help people…. I’ll just leave this here. bsky.app/profile/jaap...
Whoopi fucking doo! How fcuking generous of the useless sack of sheite.
We will take those tough choices 😏
Sensible decision given recent events. Obviously her detractors will try to label it as a U-turn though they would have also attacked her for not scrapping the rise and accused her of deliberately inflicting pain on the motorists.
