Ebola outbreak in DR Congo's Ituri province
Health authorities say a new Ebola outbreak of the Bundibugyo ebolavirus has killed about 65 people and produced 246 suspected cases in Ituri province in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Uganda has confirmed at least one linked case, and governments have started cross-border screening toward South Sudan and Rwanda. Because the outbreak involves the rarer Bundibugyo strain, existing vaccine and treatment strategies are less well established, increasing the urgency of contact tracing and regional coordination to prevent wider spread.
Health officials are working to contain a new Ebola outbreak in the DRC of a virus strain with no known vaccine.
Just a reminder that this is one of the countries we’re doing indefensible third-party deportations to, as reported by @gillianbrockell.com gillianbrockell.com/breaking-ice...
But good thing we've got USAID there to save the day....oh wait....
If only USAID had been there to help them amirite?
Absolutely the worst time to have fascists running governments
Tragic to hear about the Ebola outbreak in DRC currently. The strain has no vaccine unfortunately.
Ah, so "the ebola vaccine" we hear that exists is not for all strains? Good to know. Thanks for the information!
But case fatality rate likely to be lower than common strains.
I did some work MSF long ago evaluating a monoclonal Ab in CHO in RD, on site in Beijing but got 3 doses to London used to successfully treat an infected British nurse who had been working with Ebola cases in Africa. Never heard any more as China banned all further exports. Any Commercialised?
