techMay 12, 202656263

Sam Altman testified in Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, defending the company's shift to a for-profit model and disputing Musk's claim that OpenAI betrayed its founding mission. Altman told the court that Musk's departure from OpenAI was a "morale boost" for some researchers and said Musk's management style suited factories more than an AI research lab. Musk's lawyers pressed Altman about sworn statements from Ilya Sutskever, Mira Murati, Tasha McCauley and Dario Amodei alleging dishonesty; Altman said he had not heard those statements and disputed their claims. The testimony goes to control and governance of OpenAI and could influence WHO sets the company's future direction for AI development and investor oversight.
