Dua Lipa sues Samsung for $15 million over image on TV boxes
Dua Lipa sued Samsung in U.S. federal court, seeking $15 million after the company used a copyrighted image of her on television packaging without permission. The complaint says Samsung, the South Korean technology firm, placed a photograph of Dua Lipa blowing a kiss on TV boxes and asserts claims for copyright and trademark infringement and unjust enrichment. Dua Lipa says Samsung never licensed the image and that the unauthorized use harmed her publicity and licensing market, so she is asking for statutory and additional damages totaling $15 million. A ruling for damages or tighter licensing obligations could force tech brands to tighten controls on product imagery and increase scrutiny of celebrity likenesses in global packaging and marketing.
