The AI Job Apocalypse Is Already Happening
Robert Reich says early-2026 mass layoffs across tech and other industries show artificial intelligence is already displacing workers. Reich urges Democrats to pledge concrete policy fixes, notably Medicare for All and a Universal Basic Income financed by higher taxes on the wealthy. Reich also argues corporations have growing monopoly power and are using AI and the expectation of AI to slash jobs and depress wages. Reich says these pledges matter because they would address income security and market power at the center of 2026 policy debates.

Thank you for writing this, and insisting on UBI and M4A as a bare minimum. Please add your name to this pledge in support of UBI in response to AI that has also already been signed by Andrew Yang, Andrew Stern, Dustin Moskovitz, Martin Ford, Guy Standing and more: actionnetwork.org/petitions/th...
As much as it's displacing ever growing numbers of mid management, my concern is this generation of kids that are served up answers without researching the subject. It's way too much like looking in the back of a math book for the answer without understanding how to calculate it. It is devolution.🤬
From a macroeconomic viewpoint, vanishing jobs at the levels predicted will shake a consumer driven economy loose from its mooring dependent on spending for goods and services. When consumers don’t have money to spend, it’s the corporations who will suffer as much as the rest of the workforce.
This guy just missed a big opportunity: AI's error just gave him a serious chance to become president of the United States - or at least a cabinet member. www.newser.com/story/388533...
Hopefully more people read Robert Reich, and ignore Ezra Klein!
