OpenAI lawsuit says Musk sent ominous texts to Altman and Brockman
OpenAI's lawsuit says Elon Musk texted CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman warning "you will be the most hated men in America" after Musk asked for a settlement during their dispute. The court filings reproduce those texts as evidence and place them squarely in the timeline of tense settlement negotiations. Neuralink director Shivon Zilis, a former OpenAI board member and the mother of four of Musk's children, is slated to testify on Musk's behalf. These messages matter because they show Musk using intimidation during high-stakes talks, a detail that directly bears on judicial assessments of motive and conduct in the case.
The single most defining thing Elon Musk has ever done is killing untold numbers of people by having DOGE illegally raid and disband USAID. Not rickets, not cars, not even the CSAMbot on X. It’s this, and so many media pundits just choose to unsee it.
Man, I typed “rockets.” I have turned off predictive text. And iOS is somehow worse every update about the text correction. It’s really frustrating.
Every time people try to talk about Elon Musk in positive terms, we should sub in the name “Pol Pot”—because that may be how high the death toll Musk and DOGE are responsible for ultimately gets. Right now I think we’re still in “total deaths from opioid crisis” territory.
Musk’s space colony delusions are ENTIRELY about getting to do Nazism and own slaves where no one can stop him and he’s in charge of the very air his victims breathe.
I think about it every single day and there aren't words that can adequately describe my rage
I didn’t even hear about the rickets thing! (Realized you meant rockets, but it took me a minute.)
There is no redeeming qualities for Musk!
Ezra Klein is a gormless dipshit.
Ezra Klein’s main contribution to American political discourse is to mislead his audience about prominent far right figures, sanitize and normalize them, tamping down opposition. Charlie Kirk did politics exactly right, be more like him. Elon Musk cares only about cars and space, admire him. Etc
“A democratic society needs people in Ezra Klein’s position to treat Charlie Kirk’s anti-democracy stances as disqualifying, rather than pretend they’re just another policy opinion like tax rates.“ Same point applies to Musk. Pretending X, DOGE, USAID, etc. aren’t relevant just serves Musk’s ends.
Klein's understanding of what politics is about systematically misleads him, in a moment where politics fundamentally misfits that model. What's confusing is that he often shows awareness of this...but then fails to change his behavior consistently to match the changed world *which he perceives*.
I don't really feel this is his main contribution, but it certainly ranks as one of the worst. And everybody else says things like this all the time too, including e.g. Sam Harris or even stark critics like Yann LeCun "I love his cars and rockets... " It's not even true! He fails at doing them.
and whoever he misses, Ross Douthat is sure to elevate
Don’t forget his Paul Ryan boosterism in the early 2010s.
if you work at the NYT long enough, you become this tweet
He got millions of people killed with DOGE, and Ezra is such a psychiatric headcase that he finds the part of Elon that was monomaniacal about doing that "laudable".
Also it’s demonstrably untrue even on the “plus” side. He has in fact diverted money *away* from EVs to chase robots and AI to the extent that he has entirely abandoned his strategic advantage in EVs and has been completely eclipsed by other EV innovators.
a huge amount of people are now dead due to illegal cuts in funding at the direction of Elon Musk
In real time, it's been pretty wild watching Yglesias, Klein and McCardle advance in prominence ahead of their blog-era contemporaries because they've done it largely by warping their output towards flattering powerful people.
I think about the old Upton Sinclair line about how man cannot understand something when his paycheck depends on him not understanding it, then I think about how well paid Ezra Klein must be
5 years ago, our (MI) state senator posted on FB "Why do people hate Elon Musk? Tell it to me like I'm 5." His ignorance floored me, and yeah, a bunch of us helped him out. But read Klein, Friedman, etc., and you'll wind up ignorant and right wing while thinking you're informed and liberal.
It is so persuasive in his work that it is hard to see how he would be different if he was being paid directly to do this. Calling Musk’s rabid white nationalism “not laudable” is a perfect example. He won’t name awful actions directly but only/explicitly buffs up what he thinks are positives.
Klein is the reason we had to deal with Paul Ryan!!! He wrote a glossy profile on him as a serious intellect and the guy just wanted to gut taxes and medicaid! He's a fucking laundry service for reactionary politics!!
His elitism was barely tolerable before this takes. Now he is just insufferable.
Elon Musk is just a smarter, weirder version of Trump, with a wildly inflated sense of his own genius & importance. All Elon cares about is Elon. Can’t believe anyone would think otherwise.
Musk is barely even relevant to what is actually said here. He’s just a contrasting example framed against Democrats’ seemingly bottomless capacity to give up And in that context this seems correct — Musk is awful & has few real skills. One of few skills he DOES have is believing himself invincible
one could also note if those truly are Musk's focuses its pretty damning that his car business created the least popular EV of all time and his rockets keep exploding at launch
I had no opinion on Musk for awhile but when I read this article in 2018, I immediately realized how terrible he was. Be the house, says billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who has won his share of long-shot gambles. Will missteps shift the odds from his favor? www.wsj.com/articles/elo...
Elon Musk accidentally revealing his mom's account is one of his alt's means that he has both impersonated his own infant child and mother online
Wait so does that mean when his mom posted to try to end the fight rumors between him and Zuck it was actually him??? Also which one is more pathetic because it's pretty bad either way
He has all of the money in the world and still can't buy the help he needs.
groimes oi'm pritindin' ta be me mum
Wasn't his mom account the one that was always glazing him? That's crazy.
Freud would have had a field day with this.
Just hands down the most juiceless poster of all time.
So wait, when his mom was telling us not to be mean to her son, it was really Elon! 😂😂😭 Freud would like a word.
Remember that time that Musk totally wanted to fight Zuckerberg and the only reason he didn't is cause Musk's "mom" told him on twitter he wasn't allowed to?
His pathetic thirst to win on chat boards are the weirdest and most relatable things that he does.
Lol just the lamest guy
"pretending to be your mom going around telling people what a special boy you are" is so pathetic I truly could never even have conceived of it, this guy is an absolute trailblazer in the field of narcissistic self-humiliation
let the circle, be unbroken
"I can't wait 'til it happens" also means Elon Musk, imo
The one admirable thing about him is his relentless drive to uncover new and embarrassing ways to be a total fucking loser
can definitely picture him giggling while posting as his mom
I didn't call this but its the least surprising thing to me from this dumbss
No weird or complicated family dynamics at play either, I'm sure
All those "my special, special boy" posts 🤣
It makes sense if you’re familiar with how that lunatic was raised.
Yeah we really need a trillionaire Hunger Games. Except instead of killing each other they take each others money and then the last one left has to pay 90% taxes.
Parenting issues manifested as a caustic attempt at being a human. Should be on his Wiki page.
Reporter: Tell us about your neighbor, the serial killer: Respondent: Well, he seemed like a nice man, a White Christian.
Elon Musk and Donald Trump and all their little minions are mass murderers and should be taken into custody.
“Baby-killer Elon Musk” should be how he is named from now on
Forget custody. A dark alley is needed.
You are correct. The problem is the murdering minions read this headline and do a fun and quirky little victory dance and record it on their phones because they think mass death means they "won."
Elon Musk has agreed to pay a civic penalty to settle a lawsuit alleging that he intentionally cheated Twitter shareholders out of millions of dollars. A trust in Musk's name will pay a $1.5 million civil fine, under the settlement disclosed on Monday in the Washington, D.C., federal court.
Stop calling something someone makes every 5 minutes a fine. It's a permit. For $1.5 million dollars Musk was permitted to cheat these folks. Take their liberty. Perp-walk them to some jail time.
$1.5M is less than a penny to him. This amount is laughable
I am old enough to remember when crooks went to prison.
More encouragement for him to keep doing these kinds of crimes. What a joke.
So basically, he's not being penalized at all. That's pocket change & he's not paying it. The penalty should be a few billion & he personally should be paying the fine.
that's nothing. pennies in the couch to the Ketamine Kid.
Absolute chump change to Musk. 🤬
That's literally pocket change for a billionaire. Another crime a billionaire gets away with.
He prob has that much in his couch cushions
No sweat. Elon Musk makes $405,000 per minute. finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-mu...
Pocket change. Even $1.5 BILLION wouldn't make a dent.
That's bullshit pocket change to this MFer
What is less than a slap on the wrist? This bullshit settlement.
That’s IT? He cheated his shareholders out of “millions” & he only has to pay a 1.5 million fine? How about wholly reimbursing those he ripped off? These “fines” should be in DIRECT PROPORTION with the act he committed against the shareholders. He’s the wealthiest man on EARTH for chrissakes!
Peanuts LOCK THE LYING FUCKER UP!
$1.5 million is not even pocket change to elon. it’s pocket lint.
It’s the tip of the iceberg in musk’s crime spree. He’s stomped all over people to get where he is. After all, trump hired musk to assist him in destroying our democracy. In the aftermath musk went on stage and joyously waved a chainsaw around as he basked in the ‘glory’ of ruining so many lives.
Elon Musk is a hugely consequential figure who has "won" in the public sphere, which definitionally means he must be an admirable, interesting, and complex figure because to suggest otherwise is to imply things about US society and the course of history that we are simply unwilling to confront.
my partner was born into a (relatively small fish, but still very much) old money east coast family and talking with him about his education and family background has actually made like, all american elite journalism make sense, in that it’s all Just World
Klein specifically seems to have caught mushbrain disease in recent years. People are saying he's always been like this (evidence: taking Paul Ryan seriously). And maybe the seeds were there, but he was not Like This.
If being the richest man in the world doesn't make him the happiest then there are some very uncomfortable truths about a social narrative that also need to be confronted!
This is a good articulation of at least part of a phenomenon I've been struggling to describe concisely. Namely, this sense that partisan/electoral politics is this magical realm where nothing is ever *that* bad, or even really *real*. And the real scandal is those who dare to call evil evil.
"He tries to create organizations that run through walls, and he actually does make tremendous things happen in the world" is a helluva way to say that Elon Musk is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide and the destruction of the country's administrative capability.
It's one thing to say that the Left needs a humane version of the "move fast and break things" ethos, something I think few people would argue with. It's another thing to hand it to Elon Musk and credulously accept that the man really believes in creating an electric vehicle transition.
as somebody professionally documenting the fallout I believe every mention of Elon Musk needs to be prefaced with the fact that he killed 750,000 people and counting since last January but people are aggressively uninterested in that fact
