Trump says decision on cutting U.S. troops in Germany will come 'over the next short period of time'
President Trump said a determination on reducing U.S. troops in Germany will be made "over the next short period of time." He made the comment after a public clash with German chancellor Friedrich Merz, who criticized Trump's ongoing war in Iran. Any decision would touch major U.S. facilities such as Ramstein and Grafenwoehr, hubs for logistics, air operations, and multinational training. A U.S. pullback would reshape NATO logistics and signal increased pressure on Berlin, with implications for European defense readiness.
Trump (who is currently mad at Chancellor Merz): "The United States is studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Troops in Germany, with a determination to be made over the next short period of time. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
Merz: Don't threaten me with exactly what I want.
This guy does realize they are not there for Germany's protection, right? Right?
Wtf is “the next short period of time”? I know, I know. Two weeks.
Apparently someone told him to stop saying “in 2 weeks.”
He thinks this is a threat to Germany and not a thing we were doing solely for our benefit. It’s like getting mad at your parents for criticizing you by threatening to remove all the old concert shirts you’ve been storing in their attic.
The EU comes out of this a powerhouse if Ukraine can buy them enough time to arm up. The EU wants and needs dominance. If this stupidity continues we get kicked out of NATO, off EU bases and Canada reps NA without us and keeps the name. All in one term. Now that’s how you BK a country like a casino!
Yeah, let’s eliminate our presence in Germany while fighting in the Middle East. Because nothing could possibly happen in that scenario…
I lived in 3 European countries for several years, and visited others. I never met a single person who wanted US bases in their country. Not one. But thousands of wounded US military members who had to be evacuated from Iraq/Afghanistan appreciated the Landstuhl military hospital in Germany ...
"over the next short period of time" So, two weeks?
This thin skinned bitch is gonna continue to put American lives at risk because he hates it when people defy him. He hates being called a loser and made fun of. This is when he lashes out.
I guess Hagueseth forgot to update him that Germany is remilitarizing and would love some already improved military real estate, so go ahead and GTFO
In Germany, Trump is often referred to as a "putz." I don't speak German, so I'm not sure what it means.
"The United States is studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Donald Trump in America, with a determination to be made over the next election cycle. Thank you for your attention to this matter! American Patriot "
I never know what attention to this matter he is thanking me for. There is nothing I can really do to affect any outcomes. But sure. You're welcome.
No Trump is again doing Putin’s bidding
Is he mad at the UK again yet -- it'll only take a few days for the king factor to wear off
Germany : don’t threaten us with a good time weirdo.
Until he forgets about this like he did Greenland
Guess he's gonna gather his marbles and go home. 🙄
Most of Europe happy to see them gone.
No one cares. Signed, Everyone
The United States needs to be studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Trumps in the White House.
They are already heading towards being more independently militarily, why not speed along the further diminishment of your influence in Europe. US arms industry going to be even more insanely expensive when only the US as customer.
Chancellor Merz: "Don't. Stop. Come back."
HE’S THREATENING OUR ALLIES AGAIN—Germany, NATO, stability—like a bored landlord kicking tenants to “send a message.” This isn’t strategy, it’s ego tantrum diplomacy. You don’t weaken Europe because you got your feelings bruised by Merz. Reckless. Chaotic. Unsurprising. Sad!
I know a lot of current and former US military who were stationed in Germany and it was one of their favorite spots to be assigned to.
What's German for "Don't threaten me with a good time"?
Germany offered to support American troops until Congress finally had a bowel movement. nypost.com/2025/10/22/u...
I bet there's a German word for "when the trash takes itself out"
At this point Germany and all of Europe should expel Americans and stop buying all American goods.
Everything he says and does diminishes the United States. It will take generations to rebuild all Republicans are letting him destroy.
Russia playing the U.S.administration like a fiddle.... U.S. bases in Europe give America forward projection.... Nobody in Europe thinks America offers anything anymore...... Bye....it was good while it lasted. It's not us....it's you who changed.😐
wild how he signs his own posts like he's sending a certified letter to a country lol. but genuinely -- do you think Merz is actually rattled by this, or is Europe just... done being intimidated at this point?
Germany will be more than happy for those troops to fuck off right now...
Is the “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦” the new #Trump “𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘴”? 🤔
We really have the most insecure pos to ever exist in the White House. Christ
That ought to help the approval ratings. So many single issue voters upset about (checks notes) the number of troops currently in Germany?
Is it just me... ... or is "thank you for your attention to this matter", is starting to grate on me a bit.
Did him get his little feelers hurt? That’s exactly how a petulant child behaves when they don’t get their way - not how a president acts.
What a pity! Germans hoped, he would take M...z with him.
Sounds like a good thing for Merz. 😆😆
“The next short period of time” means nothing. He loves to use words but never seems to use them correctly.
What a damaged petty man.
Germany you’re next! “I haven’t abused them yet”
Merz’s comment that America was being humiliated by Trump’s war really, really got to him.
Good God. He is the most fragile fuck who ever lived.
You know what would be great punishment? Taking US troops out of our 75 year old base that all of the military uses for major overseas deployments. That'll show that mean mean German conservative.
Nvm that Germany is where so much lifesaving medical care happens for our military personnel injured abroad.
Threatening Germany with a good time, I see.
Or tonight’s phone call with Putin was "productive".
He'll announce his decision in two weeks
Will Germany even be upset if Trump reduces troops there?
Over the next short period of time...
So we know what to do to get the US troops out of those UK bases then ....
But comments that Trump is being totally humiliated by Putin, draw zero response from Trump. Not at all curious.
The EU needs to build their military and tell the US to get out.
He never misses opportunity to show just how petty and thin skinned he is
Yes. Bring the troops home and see what happens to American defensive posture. Bye bye!!!
Fine...the new combined European fighting force is about to inherit some prime real estate.
Such an infant. Poor troops don’t know if they are coming or going.
At this point Trump’s many buttons of sensitivity are pretty well known or easily guessed, and strategically pushing them could be good fun for world leaders.
That's probably it, but also, he decided that after a 90 minute phone call with Putin. Hmmmm.....
It's that 'sting' that you recently referenced.🐝
"a determination to be made over the next short period of time" I assume that to be two weeks. I really don't understand why Germany needs US soldiers in their country, what are they there for? Protection against Luxembourg? Maybe the US needs troops there for their own benefit?
Why did Merz say it? He knows Trump's middle name is 'Vanity'
… our straw-tailed imbecile-in-Chief makes the Austrian Corporal look reasoned
Ignoring the Trump factor, it'd be good for NATO if they moved East a bit. Germany stopped being the "border" a long time ago
Trumplethinskin can't stop whining. Merz is right, he is losing his war with Iran. Where are the Americans going to hide their seriously wounded from the US public if they pull out of Germany?
Looks like Trump saw the German chancellor’s comment that the U.S. was being "humiliated" by Iran…
I think the destruction of USAID is the one that's going to show up as a big blow to the U.S. economy that most Americans won't be able to figure out in five years.
Our relationships with other countries are pretty much entirely defined by "does their leader treat Trump like a special boy"
He’s such a dumbass. Landstuhl is a very important US asset. Only the US loses in this “retribution.”
bc T thinks the US is running a protection racket, he thinks this is a threat. whereas they hold the cards. they could take away those US bases tomorrow. then, US would have almost no ability to project military power into mideast/africa. (really, they should probably do it anyway)
Didn't he just have a 90 minute phone call with Putin?
if more countries shit talk us they get us to leave, that seems win win honestly
Talked to his pal Putin just today, too! Coincidence?
Who benefits more from US troops in Germany, the US or the Germans? I think it's the Americans. Germany is an important staging area for their operations in the Middle East.
Putin next steps list arrived
We absolutely should reduce troop numbers in Europe and around the world. If it takes Trump getting bullied into doing it, who cares?
