Pentagon says Iran war has cost $25 billion, Hegseth testifies

newsApr 29, 2026392,143

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told a House panel the Pentagon estimates the Iran war has cost $25 billion so far. He made the claim during nearly five hours of testimony that included heated exchanges and a pause when the Republican committee chairman urged him to show respect to Democratic lawmakers. The Pentagon’s $25 billion tally covers military operations to date and will frame congressional debates over emergency war funding. Lawmakers pressed Hegseth on cost details and future budget requests, making the figure central to upcoming appropriations decisions.

Pete Kegsbreath claims the Iran war has cost $25 billion — that’s a lie. It has actually cost every American family roughly $765, not including all the related price hikes.

It’s already in the hundreds of billions when you factor in increased prices on gas, diesel, fertilizer as well as long term investments by corporations due to the uncertainties and the destruction of our standing in the world. And, it’s increasing every day.

Just MONEY. 💰 They can print more...

Michellemm7

does this cost include Pete's lobster tail dinners and Johnny Walkers?

Brian Spiva5

If that is the correct amount there is no way in hell the Pentagon needs an additional $500B. None of this maths correctly. It's almost as if someone in lying. 🤔

$65Billion (and growing rapidly) to get the US a worse deal than they had under the JCPOA AND Iran is emboldened and arguably has more power now that they know they can use the strait as leverage.

Harvard expert Linda Bilmes estimated the total cost of the Iran war at $1 trillion by factoring in both short-term and long-term expenses beyond the Pentagon’s narrow operational figures.

Someone should appropriate the wealth made on insider trading around this fucking war and direct it to the costs

So, is anyone thinking ahead to December 2026, when automatic Selective Service for ages 17 - 42 men starts? If: 1. Voters don't get out & turn House (& maybe?) Senate blue 2026, & 2. Congress doesn't stop Trump's Wars/takeovers Trump will have almost never-ending, unsuspecting "War fodder."

Sad how this war is now primarily argued about over its actual cost. The memories of the 13 fallen, and hundreds injured, some severely, is a distant topic… These politicians talk of dollars and cents, sanitizing the situation with military personnel… They do not back active or retired military…

Killing thousands of civilians including 200 school girls doesn't bother Americans much- but having to pay $765 enrages them.

Yeah it was over at least 40, they are blowing smoke up your ass again. But I guess it's a day of the week.

You're right in the ballpark, there, Hoodlum! And to listen to Justin Wolfers's recent analyses, the future holds much more indirect but real costs for us. All due to this abomination of a war started by Putin talking Comrade Oranginov into it. Putin is winning almost as much as we are losing.

Not a kwagmyer, no not at all

They're eating the crabs, they're eating the lobsters tail's.... Is this included?

📎Sprout2

That’s only the direct cost. The inflation it’s causing and WILL cause may be far more - and longer lasting.

Pete Kegsbreath is a bad Alcoholic.

And the price is climbing., cbwrong.blogspot.com/2026/04/viol...

Not including the lives lost because of the war.

Gasoline hit $4.69 in our area today. I'm hoping Trump stays the course. Changing the House majority was assured. Every day now we're getting a much better chance of turning the Senate. The house will w/o a doubt impeach him and if a few GOP Senators grow some kahoonies he's done.

Ethan2

Maybe I’ll get my tariff rebate check soon to offset the costs.

Michellemm2

Does that include the gifts we have given to Bibi Zionist Netanyahu?
