Senedd TV debate spotlights Reform UK as Welsh election looms

politicsApr 29, 202615100

At a BBC Wales televised Senedd election debate less than two weeks before the vote, leaders of the six main Welsh parties clashed and the Reform UK leader denied that his party is racist. A recent poll put Reform on 30 percent and Plaid Cymru on 28 percent in voting intention, with a seat projection translating that into about 38 seats for Reform and 31 for Plaid. Commentators framed the Plaid versus Reform contest as a test over who will set the terms of Welsh governance and how devolution is defined. If Reform converts its polling lead into seats, it would reshape the Senedd balance and force Labour, Plaid and others to rethink policies on immigration, public spending and devolution.
