Elon Musk testified Tuesday in the Musk v. Altman trial, saying OpenAI executives hijacked the nonprofit he helped launch and converted it into a for-profit that leveraged his early funding and reputation. Musk told jurors he originated the idea for OpenAI and accused leaders including Sam Altman of trying to 'steal' the charity's assets and mission as they pushed the company toward commercialization. He framed the dispute as an AI safety issue, warning 'If you have someone that's not trustworthy in charge of AI, I think that's very dangerous to the whole world,' and urged limits on WHO controls powerful AI projects. The lawsuit will decide WHO controls OpenAI's board and governance, which could shape how the leading AI developer balances profit, oversight, and risk management.
