Studio destroyed original Star Fox puppets, report says

Star Fox's original SNES-era promotional puppets were destroyed after production, Japanese FX company Shirogumi says, because their rubber and fur deteriorated when exposed to air. That revelation has prompted creators to resurface photos and video clips of the puppets and to produce nostalgic edits, illustrated tributes, and memory-driven posts. Much of the work focuses on Fox McCloud and the puppets from the 1993 marketing campaign, often comparing the puppet-era look to later game designs. Posts also highlight character designer Takaya Imamura saying he cried after seeing Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

VFX artist Takashi Yamazaki first got on board working at Shirogumi in 1986 as a model artist and then went on to pursuing VFX later on.

Tragic but I'm thankful we still have iconic photographs of them, these things are vulnerable to decay as are all things, but their image lives on in professional quality and is remembered

For all I gabbed about what I want to see from a new Star Fox game a while ago, it *pales* in comparison to this video. It definitely got me thinking more about what else I'd like for whatever comes next for Fox and friends...if you've got time and a love for Space Animals, give it a watch!
