Arbor Day 2026 observances, Moon Tree plantings and presidential message
Communities across the United States observed Arbor Day 2026 on the last Friday in April with coordinated tree plantings, heritage-tree dedications, and local stewardship events. The Delaware Forest Service led statewide activities emphasizing that trees improve air and water quality and support conservation and urban cooling. Institutions highlighted Moon Trees, including the Douglas fir grown from a seed astronaut Stuart Roosa carried on Apollo 14 in 1971, and the GLOBE Program planted a second-generation American sycamore Moon Tree at NCAR's Mesa Laboratory. The White House issued its annual Arbor Day message urging Americans to plant and care for trees to boost climate resilience, lower energy costs, and expand community green space for future generations.
These are redwoods, in a redwood patch in my parent’s yard. It’s made up of trees we planted from my childhood, when we would be given saplings to plant for #arborday. They grew up with me! 🩵🌲 #trees #nature #redwoods
This is such a beautiful history! 🙏💚🌳🌲 #ForestFriday #trees #nature
It is a very fun practice to plant trees with children and watch them grow for a human life.
I really love the phrase "redwood patch"!
Happy Arbor Day! And congratulations for growing-up to enjoy the shade you might never have otherwise known.
I love this so much - they are your brothers and sisters. :)
Thank you for loving trees!
I've got some we planted in 2005, too. They're 40' tall and 12" diameter now!
How tall are they (not looking for exact numbers)? Curious how tall they get over the course of a lifetime.
Gabby. That is so amazing. That brings tears to my eyes -such joy that you planted these beauties. This really touches me deeply. Much much love.
PS. Even as a child, I was overwhelmed by visits to national parks where signage linked some trees to ancient historical events.
Extraordinary trees-- like no other, and an amazing backstory. Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful, Gabby!! That is a wonderful childhood memory.🌳💚
Damn I miss redwoods. 😕
Which one is you 😁 Beautiful photo and beautiful of your parents. 🌲✌🏼
What a wonderful way for your parents to instill a love of nature.
Wow Gabby those trees look 200 feet tall! You can't be that old. If you are what's your secret? I promise I won't tell. 🤫
Wonderful story. I have three fruit trees in our backyard planted when each child of ours was born. Wish I had the space for redwoods.
I had a dogwood tree planted in my yard when I was born and it was the only thing I really missed when I left that house. I get it.
I haven’t been around redwoods for decades but I still have the beautiful smell of them in my nose. 😊
I love this so much 🥹
Amazing story Gabby! They are beautiful trees.
