NBC News projects Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton to win the U.S. Senate seat from Texas, flipping the seat for Democrats. The NBC projection is part of a broader result that hands Democrats control of both the House and the Senate in January. NBC reports Democrats have flipped seven Senate seats so far, including Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. An NBC analysis shows Democrats will win at least 252 House seats, comfortably above the 218 needed for a majority. NBC exit polls showed President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating at 62 percent and that nearly half of voters said they viewed the election as an opportunity to rebuke Trump. NBC also reports Democrats flipped governor races in Texas, Georgia, Ohio and Iowa on Election Day. The projected Texas Senate flip removes one of the GOP’s longstanding statewide seats and contributes directly to the new Democratic congressional majorities that will take effect in January.
