AP voter poll: cost of living and corruption top issues; voters unhappy with Trump

CNN's early Voter Poll finds voters broadly unhappy with the nation, the economy and President Donald Trump. Roughly three quarters of voters say they feel dissatisfied or worse with how things are going, with about 4 in 10 describing themselves as angry. About 6 in 10 voters nationally disapprove of Trump’s job performance, with roughly half of those disapproving strongly, and about one fifth of 2024 Trump voters now saying they disapprove. Around three quarters call economic conditions bad and roughly 9 in 10 say the cost of living was a crucial or major factor in their vote; about two thirds say Trump has worsened economic conditions and most blame his policies for higher costs. Voters most often name the economy as the most important issue, followed by the state of democracy; relatively few name immigration, healthcare, foreign policy or crime as their top concern. These early voter-poll findings matter for the midterms because those election results will determine control of Congress for the remainder of Trump’s term and are being used to gauge how economic and presidential dissatisfaction could shape outcomes.
