Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan at 201% of predecessor's pace

moviesNov 3, 202625232

Godzilla Minus Zero opened in Japan on November 3, 2026, and by 11 a.m. Toho reported opening‑day revenue reaching 201% of the pace set by Godzilla Minus One. The sequel played at 448 theaters nationwide, comprising 383 standard locations and 65 IMAX locations, and the 201% comparison excluded midnight screenings held at 31 IMAX theaters. Director Takashi Yamazaki attended a Tokyo event at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills with returning stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe; the film adds Masami Nagasawa and Min Tanaka to the cast and introduces King Ghidorah into Yamazaki’s World War II, set vision. Godzilla Minus One earned 7.65 billion yen in its Japanese run; Toho noted a domestic total of about 10 billion yen is now plausible, which would require roughly 2.35 billion yen more than the predecessor, an increase of about 31%. Toho’s update emphasized this was an 11 a.m. cutoff figure and did not disclose a full opening‑day yen total, and the sequel’s holiday release versus the predecessor’s Friday opening was cited as a factor in the strong early pace. Yamazaki said he had been anxiously checking reactions online before the release.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the King of The Monsters himself, GODZILLA!! The Big G turns 72 years old today. ♥️🥹 From his debut in ‘Gojira’ all the way back in 1954 to today’s theatrical release of the 39th film in the franchise, ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’, the King of Monsters continues to dominate the screen!

I am completely serious when I say Godzilla: Minus Zero is a 10/10 movie and absolutely delivered on all levels. Brutal. Monumental. And very very loud. Holy smokes, folks.

I loved Minus One. But there's no way I'll get to see this on the big screen (and also I really don't like the whole cinema going experience now) - enjoy!

doing okay!!! A busy week ahead but hoping to finish Talk To Me and potentially a comfort rewatch of Spiderman: Brand New Day (only technically horror to my emotional state) to round it off!

GODZILLA MINUS ONE (2023) Dir. T. Yamazaki In anticipation of Minus Zero, why not revisit the astonishing Minus One! A superb blend of spectacular monster action and deeply emotional human drama, perhaps unmatched since the original. The love for the big guy shines through every frame🎞️📽️

So in addition to the midterms it's also Godzilla Day, meaning you can cast your vote, catch tonight's screening of GODZILLA MINUS ZERO and hopefully emerge to see the Republican party thoroughly stomped. (I've seen it. It's great.)

An in-theater display for an IMAX screening of GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, with an image of Godzilla crouched and roaring against a fiery landscape.

They are dressed up for an amazing reason That I decided on like right as I finished drawing this and was curious to see if any early access tickets for Godzilla Minus Zero were available, but of course they sold out a WHILE ago (Which is fine, I was planning on seeing it over the weekend anyway)

Dunnie and a DunnDunn dressed fancy; but then also a small doodle of then sitting on the ground as they realize they didn’t buy tickets in advance for a movie

Godzilla Minus Zero without context by someone who just saw it and who needs to see it again because Japanese is hard and we missed some key context
