Report: 29 NHS trusts say Palantir platform is unused or little used

The Guardian found that 29 hospital trusts NHS England lists as “realising benefits” from Palantir’s £330 million federated data platform said the system is not live for them or they are not using its applications. NHS England states 137 trusts are “live” with the FDP, but freedom of information requests obtained by Medact show those 29 trusts include Epsom and St Helier, Kent and Medway, Mersey Care, Nottingham University Hospitals and University Hospitals of North Midlands, all saying the FDP is not live or will not be rolled out. NHS England has credited the FDP with 117,539 more operations carried out by trusts in a year, but this summer it conceded it could not prove a causal link and the Office for Statistics Regulation said it will take the claims forward under its casework function. A senior health official described the gap between the NHS’s public claim and trusts’ statements as “very misleading.” Chi Onwurah, chair of the Commons science and technology committee, urged the government to activate the 2027 break clause in Palantir’s contract and run an open competition for a UK supplier, and the Commons health select committee has also called for ministers to pull the deal. Palantir’s UK and Europe chief executive Louis Mosley said ending the contract would be “putting politics above patients” and accused critics of “Palantir Derangement Syndrome.”
