Aston Villa to take legal action against Jamie Carragher
Intrigued by what legal cause of action Aston Villa believe they have directly against Carragher. On the face of it, this seems an odd public statement by the club. #AVFC www.nytimes.com/athletic/773...
Any claim in defamation seems groundless. It is a matter of opinion. And it is certainly not defamatory to say a club is not Manchester United, quite the reverse. And any regulatory complaint would not be against Carragher directly. All very odd, and not obviously thought-through. #AVFC
Imagine: insults. In football. What next? Fans be taunting the other side with “you’re quite bad, you’re quite bad, you’re quite bad…”
Given the current binfire that is Man Utd, I'd have thought Carragher saying Villa will never be Man Utd is a good thing
Quite a challenging blog for you! In all sincerity, and much as I dislike Carragher, an absolute non-starter. Any claim will open with “and who did Tielmans join from you”.
May not be a defamation action (which I agree is a non starter.). The article says AV are escalating it with Sky so they may be trying to get Sky to discipline him under what ever contract they have.
#AVFC have announced the club will take legal action against Jamie Carragher for what owner Nassef Sawiris describes as “unacceptable insults” about the club and its supporters. Story @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/773...
Very silly statement by the club Pundits are entitled to voice their opinions Threatening legal action makes us look daft
As much as Carragher has made himself look pretty dumb & pathetic with his comments (probably trotted out to get the social media attention it has since got), I do also think this official response involving legal action feels a touch thin-skinned from those at the top of our club
Whyyyyy? Just ignore him. The attention is what these people crave.
Just ignore. Rise above #AVFC Don't give this BS story any more oxygen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisa...
I’m not sure what this will or can achieve tbh. By all means, complain to Sky and the Premier League if they want to. But Nassef will do what he sees fit to do and Jamie Carragher should’ve been sacked long ago for spitting anyway
Old players sitting around saying it should be the same way it was in their day… I kind of just feel sorry for them.
Whilst I applaud this 💯, A new contact until 2035 with a 150m compensation clause would have been equally as good.
Good. This was going to come at some point. Our owners are serious businessmen, with serious ambitions. Outside "noise" and opinion is one thing, but sustained denigrating by those with global platforms is potentially damaging to the clubs global ambitions and reputation.
What are we hoping to get from this? Team doesn't need this distraction #AVFC
Say what you want about Carragher but that is next level fucking tragic from Villa.
Lads get a grip. This is embarrassing. We're better than this. #utv
Not a fan of the club doing this. I can’t stand Carragher but he’s only answering a question/giving his opinion. Telling Villa fans to fuck off is over the top but not worthy of legal action! #avfc
I suspect “legal action” in this case will just be a letter, drafted by a solicitor stating the following - “Dear Jamie, it’s you that should shut the fuck up and refrain from spitting at young girls, you fucking twat”
For me, we shouldn’t give it the time of day. Maybe he shouldn’t have said “fu*k off Villa fans” or whatever it was, but the rest of it is opinion, which he is fully entitled to have. Think we look daft taking action like this tbh #avfc
Quite frankly, I'm sick to death of seeing and hearing from Jamie Carragher. Especially when he mentions Aston Villa or Unai Emery.
I'm just sick of Jamie Carragher and have been for a very long time.
Unfortunately In today’s football we are faced with a plethora of loudmouth buffoons venting their self obsessed opinions on multiple platforms, Carragher is one example of it, I am surprised this hasn’t happened sooner, now you can sit back and watch him backpedal and pretend it was all a joke.
Nassef Sawiris has confirmed that Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for "unacceptable insults about the club and its fans." #AVFC
I don’t think this is a good idea, an overreaction that is not going to reflect well on the club / fans / team.
And they said I couldn’t love our owners any more than I already did!
This is so incredibly fucking small time. First swing and miss from Nassef for a while
www.theguardian.com/football/202... I dislike Carragher as much as anyone but this seems utterly absurd from Villa. He's an arrogant twat. Sadly that's not a crime.
If this was even remotely appropriate then Spurs could be spending most of their time talking legal action! He is an arrogant git, and one of many pundits I can’t stand having to hear from so often, but I don’t think he is particularly wrong here. At least no more wrong than the average
It is moronic. And such bad PR for the club as well. As a Villa fan myself, I really hope someone has a word and stops this silliness.
Aston Villa have announced their intention to take legal action against Jamie Carragher over his remarks about the club and its fans.
Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris: “Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football.”
Got to be a joke (of some sorts)
What has he said that's actionable? Surely nothing.
Spoof or hacked. No way its legit
Christ. Well, this is embarrassing.
Woken up only to immediately die of cringe at this. Carragher will presumably issue some kind of apology and Villa will drop the action, but really he should fight it in court as it’s the very definition of vexatious. Every Villa fan should be colossally embarrassed at their club’s infantile pique.
(Legally Villa have no case) Carragher claiming Villa will "never be Manchester United" is football illiterate, as Man U didnt catch up with Aston Villa in terms of success until the 1960s at the earliest These things arent quick, but the only thing that never changes is that everything changes
I've said in here many times, when Nufc won the fairs cup, only Arsenal and Villa had won more trophies. In 1974, when Liverpool beat Newcastle in the cup final, they equalled our number of trophies, we're we a big club then? In 1995, who'd have thought Chelsea and City would be where they are?
It’s pathetic from Villa. Don’t get me wrong, I hate Spitty as much as anyone but there’s literally nothing here. Would be funny if Dracula fucked off to Man U though
That entire podcast is a bit of a joke to be honest. Mostly the same boring “big six” centric dross every week. His comments are indicative of the underlying lack of respect the sky team have for most clubs that aren’t in the cartel.
Hard to see how in modern football. Man u have been and badly run failing business for 20 years and yet they are still pretty much set in stone at the top of the game
It's happening time and time again. Very rich people suing to try and prevent free speech. Here and in the US. Suck it up you rich baby twats.
🚨🗣️ 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Jamie Carragher: "Manchester United will be in the relegation zone by the next International break." And you know what? They've had the EASIEST run to start the season. They've played 2 promoted teams, they played Fulham who were bottom of the league,
played Spurs who were bottom of the league, and played a 10-men Manchester City side.""Now they will face Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool." Do you agree with Jamie?
Carragher is not wrong to raise it — that easy start papered over a lot. But relegation zone? Chelsea at the weekend is the real test of where this team actually is.
