Fans rewatch TNG episode 'The Inner Light' as tribute to Picard

After Patrick Stewart's death, viewers are rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Inner Light," citing it as a standout Picard performance. Posts note the episode's central moment in which Jean-Luc Picard, played by Stewart, lives an entire alternate lifetime and returns with a flute; several people described rewatching it to grieve or remember Stewart. Pluto TV's TNG channel aired "The Inner Light" as part of a Picard-focused lineup, which multiple commenters said felt intentional. Other commenters linked the episode to recent losses of actor Richard Riehle and to fans' wider picks for top Picard episodes like "Family," "Measure of a Man," "The Best of Both Worlds," and "Tapestry." Fans also recommended the full orchestral suite of the "Inner Light" theme, saying the music hits harder now. Many said they planned Picard marathons or a single rewatch of "The Inner Light" as a personal tribute.

Amazing that we lost Richard Riehle and Patrick Stewart so close together when they were both in this great TNG episode

I just realized that orchestral suite from The Inner Light is going to hit so much harder now If you've never listened to the full orchestral version of the song Picard plays on the flute, I cannot recommend it highly enough

I personally cannot face this tonight but it remains here for me when I can

I’m gonna have to bookmark this for later. I dont think I can do that today.

I had it on CD when I was younger, I've listened to it hundreds of times in my life. Listening to it tonight I started crying for the first time.

One of the most gorgeous Trek melodies, up there with Goldsmith’s contributions. I love the story that Christie’s auctioned one of the non-working flutes with an opening bid of $300, expecting it’d be an item for modest collectors. It netted $40,000.

Patrick Stewart died this morning. He was an incredible dramatic actor and one of the defining faces of Star Trek, bringing a dramatic ethos to his role that changed Trek forever. His role in TNG's Inner Light comes to mind. Perhaps Stewart woke up somewhere else and is reflecting like Picard did

That episode and his performance lives in my heart.

Yes, first thing I thought of.

[smiles] maybe he woke up on the Enterprise. And said "Oh not thids again", before going into reflection mode. I like this. This thought will keep me together for a little bit.

Since Measure of a Man, Drumhead and Inner Light are already mentioned, let's go with Family. Not exactly the most action packed Episode, but the way it deals with the post borg assimilation trauma, is top notch.

One of my Big Pandemic Activities was to watch through the entirety of The Next Generation for the first time ever. It was truly a brilliant show and Picard was a delightful character throughout. The Inner Light was an especially great episode.

youtu.be/IjCxl9JL6Ug?... Yeah… now I’m crying Inner Light is one of the greatest episodes of TV, let alone Trek… and so much of it is *just* Stewart’s acting and emotional presence

We’ve lost so many brilliant lights this year. People who reminded us to be kind, to be crazy, to be ourselves, to explore. What an incredible life. What a loss. Thank you sir Patrick for bringing such gravitas and dignity to so many things. m.youtube.com/watch?v=GjDb...

Oh, no, what a loss! Patrick Stewart was a part of my youth. Please find and watch the TNG episode called "The Inner Light," where Picard lives an entire other life in 30 mins. Heartbreaking and magical, and a Stewart tour de force. I still think about it 35 years on. 🥺😭💔🖖 www.cbc.ca/news/enterta...

Turned on PlutoTV and they're airing "Inner Light" which is on purpose; they air episodes in order and were in season 2 yesterday. Someone put this on, on purpose. 😢
