Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Named Target of Alleged Chinese Spy Plot

The New York Times reports that U.S. counterintelligence concluded a Chinese businesswoman who cultivated a close relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was passing intelligence to Beijing. The reporting, by Jonathan Swan, Maggie Haberman, Ana Swanson, Paul Mozur, Tripp Mickle and Julian E. Barnes, says the woman was a Singapore-based executive and that U.S. officials identified her as an intelligence asset after intercepts and unmasking. Roughly a year ago President Donald Trump was briefed on the intelligence and chose not to act, according to the Times. The article says Mr. Huang was not notified of the findings. The story connects this case to broader concerns about efforts by China to collect technology-related intelligence, and it prompted renewed scrutiny of U.S. counterintelligence handling of contacts between American tech leaders and foreign nationals.
