Fleetwood Town stuns Arsenal, knocks champions out of Carabao Cup

League Two side Fleetwood Town shocked Arsenal by knocking the reigning Premier League champions out of the Carabao Cup after a 1-1 draw that went to penalties, Fleetwood winning the shootout 5-3. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta congratulated Fleetwood for their performance, called it a "really sad day" for Arsenal and said he could not fault his players' attitude despite Arsenal having so much of the ball and creating many chances they failed to convert. Arteta said he will review Max Dowman's red card on video before assessing the incident and added that the squad will learn from the defeat. The result sends Fleetwood through to the next round of the competition and eliminates Arsenal from the Carabao Cup.

Anyone who views this as an embarrassment is wrong. It is masterful management to make it look like you’re trying in Carabao but go out as early as possible. It’s a worthless trophy that jams up your fixture list. Klopp used to do this all the time.
