BBC edits out pride pins on University Challenge contestants
My mind is just collapsing at the "we have far-right entryist groups offering themselves as middle-men to hook you up with professional hitmen, but our big priority is covering up pride pins" of the present BBC.
Just to link to the story, as this really hasn't been as big a story as it should be.
The BBC is just a fucking terrified soufflé
Anything woke is now terrorism. Racist UVF terror groups are white, not woke so not problem.
Well, it's just a little murder, Kieron. Nothing serious. *cough*
This is an outrage. Who decided this?
What is happening to the BBC?! Pride pins edited out of University Challenge in ‘Orwellian’ move www.leicester.news/bbc-edits-ou...
'maintaining balance' thats the excuse they'll use 'maintaining balance' Which makes you wonder what would have been required for them to keep the pins in. Someone on the show wearing a swastika armband perhaps?
Are Poppies to be edited out too?
We should all buy these www.poppyshop.org.uk/products/pri...
So... the high profile one was editing out someone wearing a "Protect the Dolls" shirt for training in Strictly, but apparently it's across the board that wearing Pride pins = political/extremist.
They’ve been reporting positively Reform for years so, no surprise
The previous Tory government installed a lot of right-wingers in BBC leadership; Labour (i.e. Lisa Nandy) have done the square root of bugger all about it
How it started. How it's going.
1. Referring to trans people as "biological male/female who identifies as [...]" 2. Censoring the phrase "Protect the dolls" 3. ???? 4. Censoring anything Pride-related
And still, still, anti trans campaigners are getting nominated for awards for how very cancelled they have been. FFS
I really have given up on the BBC now. It had a good run, but it’s over. Burn it down. www.leicester.news/bbc-edits-ou...
I've been a huge supporter of public media my whole life given I've seen first hand how unmoored a country's media ecosystem can get without a public broadcaster (ahem, America), but at this point even I'm like "I really don't want to pay the license fee for this crap any more."
I’m so so glad I cancelled my license.
Why don’t the BBC issue mandatory jump suits (with optional donor branding) for all of their shows ?
The BBC is a good warning about what happens when you exclusively focus on trying to please the 10% of people who will hate you no matter what
Anyone claiming the BBC ditching Drag Race and I Kissed A Boy isn't part of their wider anti-LGBT trend is just deluded now
They are erasing lgbtq people and you have to start questioning why.
The Brigade of Bigoted Cunts are at it again.
having thought it was more or less fine for the BBC to not want a protect the dolls t-shirt on Strictly, I think it is harder for them to defend editing pride flag pins off contestants on University Challenge. it’s less explicitly political and the stakes are so much lower with random students
They also don’t blur out all political symbols equally, only the disallowed ones which so far seem to relate just to LGBT existing, I don’t see how you can describe it as anything other than homophobic
the BBC’s current ad campaign is absolutely desperate for me to think they’re an important and relevant part of my life, but that sits uneasily with the idea that a gentle symbol of LGBT inclusion that no one would blink at in an office is too political for them
