Trump praises Ramaswamy ad targeting Amy Acton

President Donald Trump on Thursday praised the “very powerful” Vivek Ramaswamy ad that features Amy Acton’s estranged mother, Donna Arthur, and urged Ramaswamy to keep it running. The ad, which moved from social media to television this week, quotes Arthur calling Acton a “liar” and was criticized by Acton’s campaign and her brother Philip Stearns as a “despicable low.” Court documents provided by Acton’s campaign show Arthur’s then-husband was charged with raping Acton when she was between 10 and 12 years old; he entered a not guilty plea, left the area while out on bond, and the case never went to trial. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine told reporters he thought Ramaswamy’s campaign should take the ad down but did not rescind his endorsement; Vice President JD Vance and Mr. Trump defended the spot. Mr. Trump wrote that the press was “trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it's so good” and called DeWine a “RINO,” saying he told Ramaswamy to keep the ad up. When reporters raised Acton’s family backstory at the White House, Mr. Trump said he knew nothing about it and added that if his own mother had spoken that way it would be major news, then said he was defending the ad because people would “love every inch of it” if it were about his mother.
