Putin proposes summit with Trump and Xi, excluding Zelensky

The Wall Street Journal reports Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit next month with U.S. former president Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping to discuss ending the war in Ukraine while excluding Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The proposal would have the three leaders negotiate the conflict’s outcome without Ukraine’s direct participation, according to media accounts reposted on the Lightnews aggregation. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has confirmed talk of a Trump, Putin, Xi summit while saying U.S. intelligence sharing with Kyiv has not been stopped, according to a public post. Commentators and analysts cited in reposts warned the meeting could produce a Russia- and China-backed deal that Europe and Ukraine would reject and could fracture transatlantic unity. The report prompted immediate criticism in posts that described the plan as an attempt to cement Russia’s status alongside the United States and China and to force a negotiated outcome favorable to Moscow.

Now, Putin has proposed a summit with Trump and Xi to decide Ukraine’s fate for them, bulldoze a century of international cooperation, and frame Russia as an equal to the U.S. and China. We’ll see if Putin’s puppet continues to dance on his strings.
