The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll finds President Donald Trump’s overall approval at a record low in the low 30s, handing Democrats a clear midterm advantage. The survey shows Democrats leading the generic House ballot by about 7 to 8 points. On the economy specifically, just 28 percent approve of Trump’s handling while 70 percent disapprove, a record-low approval and record-high disapproval for his presidency, the poll reports. Overall disapproval in the poll reaches roughly two-thirds of respondents. The Washington Post and ABC News say those standings strengthen Democrats’ prospects for winning control of Congress in the upcoming midterms. Other recent national polls, including Fox News, have also recorded historically low approval numbers for Trump in the mid-30s, reinforcing the downward trend documented by the ABC/WaPo/Ipsos findings.
