After clearing waivers, Vancouver Canucks forward Aatu Räty was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson said the club thanks Räty and that acquiring Quillan and Buhr “gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth.” Jacob Quillan, 24, skated in a career-high 23 NHL games for Toronto in 2025-26, scoring one goal and two assists, posted 36 points in 40 AHL games with the Toronto Marlies and contributed nine points in 19 playoff games during the Marlies’ 2026 Calder Cup championship; he also totaled 38 goals and 55 assists in 116 NCAA games at Quinnipiac and was named the NCAA championship tournament MVP in 2022-23. Brandon Buhr, a British Columbia native who spent time in the BCHL, finished his NCAA career after four seasons (one at Clarkson, three at Union) with back-to-back 19-goal campaigns in 2024-25 and 2025-26 and is entering his first professional season in 2026-27. The trade follows Vancouver placing Räty on waivers the previous day and sends Räty to Toronto while adding two younger forwards to Vancouver’s organizational depth.
