At a post-debate media gaggle on Tuesday night, GOP Rep. Andy Harris (Md.) confronted a Baltimore Banner reporter and wrongly insisted she was unlawfully recording him under Maryland’s two-party consent law. Harris said "I refuse to give you permission to record" and told aides "She is violating the law. In fact, get an officer in here. She’s violating the law on two-party recording." Banner reporter Pamela Wood and colleague Brenda Wintrode noted Harris had invited reporters to speak after the debate and that cameras and phones were visible, meaning there was no reasonable expectation of privacy. The exchange followed a contentious debate in which audience members laughed after Harris blamed Democrats’ environmental policies for rising diesel costs, and Harris scolded an attendee who interrupted him. Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz criticized Harris on social media, saying Harris was out of touch and more interested in picking fights than answering questions. Harris is seeking his ninth term in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District and is an original member and current chair of the House Freedom Caucus.

This is WILD! GOP Rep. Andy Harris lost it on reporters after debating Democrat Dan Schwartz in Maryland. Harris threatened to involve prosecutors because one journalists in particular was recording him. #BlueWaveIn20Days
