Ashley Sanchez and Mallory Swanson scored second-half goals as the United States rallied to tie top-ranked Spain 2-2 Tuesday at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. Spain took a 2-0 lead in the first half when Alexia Putellas opened the scoring in the 27th minute and then set up Salma Paralluelo five minutes later; Putellas' goal was her 42nd in her 150th cap. Emma Hayes made four changes to the starting XI from Saturday’s loss, including goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, and used eight total substitutions in the second half as the USWNT pressed back. Sanchez curled home a header into the bottom corner four minutes into the second half for her fourth international goal and first since 2022. Michelle Cooper created the equalizer, feeding Swanson for a half-volley that became Swanson’s 39th international goal and her first since the 2024 Olympic Gold Medal match. Lily Yohannes nearly produced a stoppage-time winner but Spain goalkeeper Misa made a diving save to preserve the draw. Hayes called it a display of “great fight, great determination,” and the result prevented a fourth USWNT defeat of 2026; the team now heads to the CONCACAF W Championship in November to face El Salvador in the quarterfinals.
