49ers LB Dre Greenlaw suspended one game for head-butt

sportsOct 12, 202617385

The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw one game without pay after he head-butted helmetless Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline, an act the league said violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The league directed Greenlaw's ejection from Sunday’s game and issued the subsequent suspension. Greenlaw has been ejected three times and suspended twice during his NFL career. Greenlaw's disqualification forced rookie Jaden Dugger into an every-down role alongside Fred Warner; Dugger finished the game with nine tackles and one sack. The suspension removes Greenlaw from the 49ers' lineup for their next game and required the team to rely on Dugger and other linebackers in the short term.
