Iran war squeezes global energy supply, diesel prices surge

newsOct 11, 202632810

The war on Iran has disrupted Middle East energy flows and shipping chokepoints, pushing fuel and shipping costs higher and forcing governments to reassess energy security. Riyadh Energy Week and the 17th International Energy Forum opened in Riyadh despite a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport that Saudi authorities say killed 12 people and injured 309; Italy joined by videolink and Nigeria sent a representative. The IEF brings together 68 countries that account for more than 90 percent of global oil and gas supply and demand, including Saudi Arabia, the United States and Russia. Fossil fuels still supply nearly 81 percent of global energy consumption, with oil at 31.4 percent, coal 25.9 percent and natural gas 23.5 percent, so disruptions in the Middle East ripple widely. Before the war, about 27 percent of global seaborne oil trade and almost 20 percent of LNG trade transited the Strait of Hormuz; traffic through the Strait, the Bab al-Mandeb and the Suez Canal has been reduced, forcing some shipments on longer routes around Africa. Richard Matthews, director at Gibson Shipbrokers, called the constriction of the Strait of Hormuz a major chokepoint because there is no alternative maritime route, a factor amplifying global price and supply effects. Downstream, Al Jazeera reports people and businesses are already feeling the disruption through rising costs of essentials as shipments take longer and become more expensive.

With the war in Iran driving up energy costs it’s gonna be a hard winter for a lot of us. No one has to face it alone. If you’re ever worried about staying warm this winter go to jacksonformaine.com/heat We’ve got a list of resources there to point you in the right direction.

Oh man, what a wonderful list of resources for Mainers, all on one page. Grateful. Thank you.

The U.S. needs more politicians like Troy Jackson. Honest and down to earth.

Susan Collins bears the burden on Mainers this winter when we won’t be able to keep our pipes from freezing or buy a weeks worth of groceries all because Congress has zero check on the executive branch’s daily illegal fraud

Heating assistance in Maine, including free wood banks, weatherization programs, assistance with heating bills, finding lowest oil prices, etc.

These are great resources to help us get thru the winter. Now, let’s send Troy to the Senate where he can start undoing everything trump has done to cause these sky high oil bills in the first place.

"Only Russia is responsible for the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday as he vowed to press ahead with strikes on Russian oil refineries, despite criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who blamed him for high diesel prices and said he should be replaced."

Ben Meiselas says something I never stopped to consider. Russia provides weapons to Iran Trump is at war with Iran. Trump makes a deal with Russia over diesel fuel. The reason diesel prices are high is because of the war with Iran. WTF???

Zelenskyy also hit back at Elon Musk during his ABC appearance. The Tech giant accused Zelenskyy of "going too far" but Ukraine's President said they blame him because they can't find a key to stop Putin, and try to hide the fact the real fuel problems are caused by Trump's war in Iran.

How to write a lede: Maine is…"singularity reliant on heating oil, and the price of the product is surging because of President Trump's war with Iran, which has clogged a vital oil shipping corridor." No "experts say," no passive voice. Facts. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/u... @timbalk.bsky.social

As the Senate race in Maine heats up, the state is getting cold.

And for many Maine voters, chilly weather could present a particular challenge this year: New England’s northernmost state is singularly reliant on heating oil, and the price of the product is surging because of President Trump’s war with Iran, which has clogged a vital oil shipping corridor.

Retired Air Vice-Marshal Sean Bell joins The Trump Report to analyse Donald Trump’s controversial diesel deal with Vladimir Putin, warning that the president is acting like a “drowning man grasping at straws” as his Iran war unravels and the midterms approach. youtu.be/OGXV5hZkCww?...

Fuckface declared an energy ceasefire that neither Russia nor Ukraine has confirmed, then signed it like a hotel memo. Diesel prices are hurting him right before the midterms, so peace is now whatever he types on Truth Social. Do not break it, says the man who breaks everything.

This deal was never about the American people and U.S. diesel prices. This was about helping Putin and enriching Trump. Any reporting on this that doesn't at least elude to that is just a disinformation relay service copying Kremlin and Mar-a-Lago talking points.

🔸 The Iran war was poorly planned, and now they are trying to evade responsibility. Populism to win elections is one thing, but this is an absolute disgrace. Ukraine, Europe stands with you and always will. A serious administration will soon return to Washington, and we will stand together again.

The war on Iran was partially a distraction from the Epstein files, blaming Ukraine is a distraction from the idiocy of the previous distraction.

My thoughts (I don't think I'm alone) is that it also means that Russia is now part of the US energy supply chain. Trump will now claim that Ukraine's strikes on refineries are a direct attack on the US energy security. Not just the vague false claim that the strikes increase diesel prices.

Trump signed sanctions on Russian energy, then cut a diesel deal with Putin. Our dollars could bankroll Russia’s war and its support for Iran against U.S. forces. America First? Putin gets paid while our troops face the consequences

5. A month before midterm elections, Trump will attempt to address high fuel prices by cuttting a deal with Putin to obtain diesel from Russia. This will be a unilateral reversal of years of U.S. pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Trump went to war with Iran. Now he's paying Putin to clean up the mess. He created the energy crisis. He's funding the man killing Ukrainians to fix it. America has no leverage left on Ukraine. Europe holds the cards now. You cannot make this up. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsPH...
