Bird of the Day, theme 'Blue Skies'

natureOct 5, 202626514,599

Bird Of The Day's theme is Blue Skies, asking for any bird photographed or depicted against a clear blue sky, with an alternate theme of BadWeather for birds in rain, snow, or storms. Submissions today skew toward flight and raptor shots plus vivid wet-weather portraits, from high-soaring Eurasian griffon vultures and puffins in formation to closer portraits. Standout gallery entries include a juvenile red-tailed hawk against a blue sky, a snowy egret lifting off at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, and a Mexican Violetear hummingbird caught in the rain for the BadWeather alternate. Look for striking contrasts of plumage against bright skies and dramatic weather moments under the tags #BlueSkies and #BadWeather.

#BadWeather? @atlanticbirding.bsky.social's alt theme for #BirdOfTheDay. One of my favorite portraits of a Red-winged blackbird, showing a soft rain can be beautiful. #birds #photography #Rain #PNW

A Red-winged blackbird against the clay colored background of a rainy marsh in autumn. Rust colored scallops in the feathers across this males back and a shining dark eye and wet beak, as well as just a slender shoulder patch, showing red and yellow.

#Birds #Raptor Atlantic Birding @atlanticbirding.bsky.social says today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #BlueSkies; any bird against a blue sky. I've chosen a somewhat scruffy Bald Eagle coming in for a landing.

An adult Eagle coming in for a landing in a leafless tree top. The bird has a chocolate brown body and wings, white head & tail, and yellow feet & beak. The background is a pale blue sky. The bird's wings are open and raised above its head.

🪶 Good Morning, Happy Monday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #BlueSkies; any bird against a blue sky Alt. is #BadWeather; any bird in inclement conditions - A Peregrine Falcon in flight - A Goldfinch in the rain #ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #BlueskyMonday

Nice photo. It can be challenging to get everything exposed with the egrets – I hesitate to count all the photos with washed out highlights I've had to delete.

For Atlantic Birding's #BirdOfTheDay of #BlueSkies, here's a red-bellied woodpecker I saw out at the wetlands. #BlueSkyMonday #Photography #Birds #Woodpeckers

A red bellied woodpecker perches at the very top of a dead tree that rises up the middle of the pure blue frame. There's a small fork with a dead branch on the left at the bottom of the frame, and the sun shines on the tree from the left, leaving the right side in shadows

so it's a "wetpecker"? I'll see myself out.

Crow launching from a dead tree #BirdOfTheDay #BlueSkies #BlueSkyMonday #ECK #EastCoastKin #Photography #Birds #BirdsOfBlueSky #10MinutesFromHome

Vertical photo of a crow taking off from a branch of a dead tree. The crow is directly facing you. Its wings are vertical, wing tips nearly touching each other at the top. Its legs hang straight down. It is launching off a branch of a dead tree. You can only see part of the tree, whose trunk is at the right edge of the frame, and there are multiple branches coming across the photo at different angles. The background is a hazy, cloudless summer blue sky

#BlueSkies is #BirdoftheDay theme and an Osprey looking for a morning bite over the Bay #Birds #eck 🪶

A photograph captures an Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) in flight, seen from below against a blue sky. The raptor is soaring with wings fully extended, showing its white underparts, dark brown carpal patches, and barred flight feathers. Its head is white with a distinct dark eye-stripe.
