Alex Scott withdraws from England squad with thigh injury

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has withdrawn from England’s squad for Tuesday’s Nations League tie with the Czech Republic and returned to his club for assessment after suffering a thigh quadriceps injury. Scott, 23, made his first senior international start in Saturday’s 7-0 win over Croatia in Rijeka, playing 70 minutes before being substituted after feeling the issue prior to the match. England and Bournemouth medical staff expect Scott to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Bournemouth are due to play nine games between 10 October and 8 November, meaning Scott faces missing the club’s upcoming schedule if the longer estimate holds. The squad move removes one midfield option for England ahead of the Czech Republic match and hands Bournemouth an early injury concern to manage during a congested fixture period.
