Truckers say a diesel fill-up can top $1,000 as prices surge

The New York Times and other reporting say diesel prices have surged past about $6 a gallon in parts of the United States, producing single truck fill-ups above $1,000. Owner-operator truckers report razor-thin margins after fuel costs; one cited example showed a $626 fuel top-off for a load that grossed about $1,000 while the driver still faces a roughly $5,300 monthly truck payment and insurance. High fuel costs are forcing some independent drivers to stay on the road for months to avoid idle expenses and prompting others to park rigs, reducing available hauling capacity. Commenters and outlets linked the spike to international tensions and supply pressures and warned the squeeze is hitting farmers, small haulers and the movement of groceries, construction materials and medical supplies. Social media posts and reporting say state-level responses and emergency measures have been discussed in some places to ease access to cheaper heating fuel as an alternative. Observers say the immediate consequences are more grounded rigs and stressed owner-operators; potential next steps flagged in coverage include further operational shutdowns by small carriers and political pressure for policy relief.

We are actually lucky Trump is so stupid and greedy he did not ban exports on diesel prior to the midterm elections. That would have helped Republicans in the midterms but then his oligarchs would have made less money off of American farmers and truckers.
