Joey Porter Jr. traded from Steelers to Cowboys for draft picks

The Dallas Cowboys announced Wednesday night they have acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas is sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh, and NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the Cowboys do not plan to sign Porter to an extension immediately. Porter, 26, was in the final year of his rookie deal after the Steelers and he failed to reach an extension before the Week 1 negotiating deadline; he has not played this season while managing a back injury. Porter was a second-round pick in 2023 out of Penn State and came off his best pro season in 2025 with 14 passes defended and one interception. The move bolts Dallas’ injury-hit secondary, Dallas is allowing 27.3 points per game, and it was not immediately known whether Porter would debut Sunday vs. the Houston Texans. Pittsburgh (2-1) and Dallas (1-2) have now completed three trades since 2025, following prior deals for George Pickens and Broderick Jones.
