Cristiano Ronaldo left Portugal's national team training camp after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation and said he will explain his reasons "in time". Portugal coach Jorge Jesus denied any rift, saying Ronaldo had been told before the Denmark match that he would not start and might be used as a substitute, but Jesus then decided not to bring him on. Ronaldo, who considered retiring after the World Cup but stayed to chase 1,000 career goals, was included in Jesus's 25-man squad and started the Nations League game against Wales but did not play in the 2-1 win over Norway. The forward did not join team-mates in going over to visiting fans after the Norway match and instead went to the changing rooms; Portuguese media showed him leaving Parken stadium with two backroom staff. Jesus said Ronaldo performed individual mobility and strengthening exercises rather than the full team session on Tuesday and would train normally the following day, but Ronaldo did not take the pitch in Denmark. The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed Ronaldo's departure and said preparations for the matches against Denmark and Norway continue with the remaining 24 squad members.
