The No Kings movement has scheduled a nationwide Day of Action for Saturday, October 17, organizing local Vote Early events across the country and adding new events daily. Organizers say the mobilization aims to convert street protests into voter turnout; Steve Murphy, co-chair of Indivisible Yolo, called voting early the next step in the fight against an authoritarian government. In the Sacramento region more than 10 protests were scheduled for Oct. 17, including events in East Sacramento, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville, Placerville, Marysville, Davis, Woodland and Fair Oaks. Additional California events listed include Modesto, Fresno and Santa Maria. The Oct. 17 wave would be the fourth No Kings mobilization in the Sacramento area; organizers hope the campus of local community events will bring ballots to polling locations. The announcement comes as a Reuters/Ipsos poll found President Donald Trump’s approval rating at 32 percent and AAA reported the average price for gas in Sacramento near $6.27 a gallon, economic and political strains organizers cite as motivation. No Kings frames the day as a nonpartisan push to turn people power into voter power by encouraging attendees to bring and submit ballots early.
