Abbey Road marks 57th anniversary

musicSep 26, 202639614

The Beatles released Abbey Road on September 26, 1969, the last album the four, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, recorded together. Posts note the album has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, with one citing more than 35 million. Iain Macmillan photographed the iconic cover outside EMI Studios; the band walked across the street three times while only six photos were taken and the fifth image became the sleeve. Abbey Road reached number one on the UK albums chart and spent 11 weeks atop that chart. Let It Be would appear in 1970 but had been recorded before Abbey Road. Commenters and tributes highlighted tracks such as Come Together, Here Comes the Sun and the B-side medley, and linked Abbey Road back to the Get Back sessions covered in recent retrospectives.
