A taxpayer funded 30-second television spot featuring images of President Donald Trump, American flags and military aircraft aired on Fox News and Newsmax and carries on-screen text saying "paid for by the U.S. government." AdImpact estimates the TV buy at about $14,000. The spot blares JMSN's "Love Me" and praises Trump’s tax cuts, manufacturing policies and policing while saying "America will never be a communist country." House Democrat Jamie Raskin said it would be a Hatch Act violation for any federal employees who worked on the ad and called it "blatantly unethical under numerous federal ethics provisions." A White House official disputed that the ad was political and described it as a "public service announcement," according to reporting. The buy has prompted calls for legal scrutiny and possible challenges over use of public funds for political messaging, and news outlets including the Associated Press and The Washington Post have reported on the placement and content of the spot.
