Thinktank linked to Reform UK calls to abolish state pension

The Centre for a Better Britain (CFABB), a think tank linked to Reform UK and led by former Reform operations chief Jonathan Brown, has published a 183-page report titled "Boosting Britain" that calls for abolishing the state pension and cutting £75bn from the tax code. The report proposes scrapping capital gains tax and inheritance tax, eliminating stamp duty on property and shares, removing digital services tax and air passenger duty, and cutting corporation tax from 25% to 15% over eight years. CFABB says those measures would effectively remove up to half of the existing tax code and argues they would raise productivity and living standards, while stressing tax cuts must be matched by public spending reductions but offering no full plan for those savings. To replace the state pension the report recommends "lifetime investment accounts" including a £1,000 starter payment at birth and personal contributions of up to 15% of earnings, with a residual state pension retained only as a means-tested safety net. The report also urges weaker banking rules, a sliding scale for bank taxes, breaking up the Treasury with a new "Department for Economic Growth," and linking senior Bank of England pay to inflation targets. CFABB will launch the report at a private City executives event on Wednesday; the group operates from Millbank Tower near Reform UK’s headquarters, its funding is unclear, and the authors said the work has not yet been reviewed by Reform UK. The package arrives weeks before prime minister Andy Burnham’s government is due to publish its first budget and is likely to shape debate around Reform UK’s platform ahead of the next election.

‘We’ll eradicate the state pension’ would be quite the proposal for Reform www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Interesting speech by Burnham at the UN where he announced a new National Centre for Information Defence to counter, mainly, Russian disinformation. Oddly, Reform and GB News are already angry about it.
