Giants QB Jaxson Dart faces likely season‑ending knee injury

Jaxson Dart suffered a left knee injury Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams that proved more serious than initially believed, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport after an MRI showed more extensive damage than a first diagnosis of an MCL sprain. The MRI findings have the New York Giants bracing for an extended absence and the possibility that Dart could miss the rest of the season or require surgery. Giants coach John Harbaugh said evaluations are ongoing and no final decisions have been made. Dart will not play when the New Orleans Saints visit in Week 6, so veteran Jameis Winston, who signed a two-year extension earlier in September, is expected to start. The injury also delays the much-discussed Dart versus Tyler Shough rookie comparison; Shough and Dart have not yet faced each other in a regular-season game. Team personnel are seeking additional medical opinions to determine next steps and timing for any procedure or roster moves.
