Zach Ertz signing to Eagles practice squad

The Eagles are signing former Eagle Zach Ertz to their practice squad after Dallas Goedert suffered a knee injury that is expected to sideline him for a few weeks. With Grant Calcaterra and rookie Eli Stowers already on injured reserve, Philadelphia would have been left with blocking specialist Johnny Mundt and deep reserve E.J. Jenkins; Ertz’s addition restores proven pass-catching depth. Ertz, the Eagles’ second-round pick in 2013, spent 8 1/2 years in Philadelphia before being traded in October 2021 and most recently played two seasons with Washington; he became a free agent after last season. Ertz is rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in Week 14 last year but was among the NFL’s top tight ends through that point, ranking 10th in catches and yards among tight ends in 2025 before his injury. He ranks fifth all-time among tight ends with 825 career receptions and his 579 catches as an Eagle stand 10 fewer than Harold Carmichael’s franchise record of 589. Eagles executive Howie Roseman said he had been in touch with Ertz during his rehab and praised Ertz as one of the greatest tight ends to play the game. If Ertz is activated from the practice squad for game duty, the move directly addresses the Eagles’ short-term need at tight end while the club evaluates Goedert’s recovery timeline.
