CNN, MS NOW and Politico file lawsuit over White House access

CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a First Amendment lawsuit Monday challenging President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke their White House press credentials and asking a federal judge in the District of Columbia for immediate relief. The outlets seek a temporary restraining order to restore their journalists’ access to White House grounds, workspaces and, for CNN and MS NOW, television equipment and camera locations. The complaint argues the White House revoked credentials without notice or process because it objected to the outlets’ coverage, which the lawsuit calls a direct assault on the First Amendment and a due process violation. The emergency request could prompt hearings and legal arguments from the administration as soon as this week. The three organizations noted Trump said he might add others to the ban and quoted his prior statement that he would bar outlets that publish “negative stories.” Some First Amendment and legal experts have described the ban as unconstitutional, and at least one administration official pointed to a 1965 Supreme Court passport case in defending the stance. If the court grants immediate relief, the outlets would regain access; if not, the case will proceed through the courts to resolve whether the administration can exclude press outlets based on coverage.

GOOD. Sue the hell out of them. CNN, MS NOW & Politico are taking the Trump administration to court after the White House stripped their journalists’ access because Trump didn’t like their coverage of him. The First Amendment doesn’t come w/a “unless the president gets his feelings hurt” clause.

Nicole Wallace just asked Andrew Weissmann what he would say to MS NOW, CNN, and Politico regarding their lawsuit against the Trump admin over the ban. He said: "You're going to win."

Trump banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. Now they’re suing him, and the case landed before a judge Trump himself appointed. But Trump is still furious about which judge they got, for one very specific reason.

JUST IN: Trump says he expects to lose lawsuit filed by POLITICO, CNN & MS NOW over ban he imposed on their access to the White House. POTUS suggests he will have to bank on an appeal, even though the judge is one of his appointees. More: www.politico.com/news/2026/09...
