Radio stations, protesters escalate backlash over Ed Sheeran tour changes

Classic Hits Radio said it will stop playing Ed Sheeran's music for the foreseeable future after backlash over Sheeran removing Macklemore from his U.S. Loop Tour. Group program director Dave Kelly of Bay Broadcasting told The Independent the decision followed listener feedback and the choice of Irish artists to withdraw from the tour and was not intended as a personal judgment of Sheeran. Macklemore had repeatedly called for a Free Palestine message and performed his song "Hind's Hall" at MetLife Stadium on September 4 and 5 and was then dropped as an opening act. Patriots owner Robert Kraft told Sheeran he would cancel Gillette Stadium dates unless Macklemore was removed, and Kraft encouraged other stadium owners to issue similar ultimatums, according to reporting. Four other support acts subsequently left the tour, including Aaron Rowe and Beoga, Lukas Graham and Finneas. Pro-Palestine groups Philly Palestine Coalition and Shut Down D&Z have organized a protest outside Sheeran's September 19 concert at Lincoln Financial Field, circulating a flyer that calls for direct action and condemns billionaire and stadium-owner influence on bookings. The dispute has prompted both artist withdrawals and organized protests while broadcasters publicly cut Sheeran's airplay in response.

Starting to look like the artist-boycott of South Africa back in the 80s. Maybe it can grow equally big? Boycotting ALL artists who support IsraHell/ refuse to use their voice against genocide? It only takes one to start the ball rolling. www.thenational.scot/news/2655742...

A radio station dropping Ed Sheeran because listeners hated the Macklemore decision is one hell of a backlash loop. Macklemore donates $1 million, the openers walk, and suddenly everyone involved is explaining exactly where they stand on Palestinian lives.

I understand why people are upset at Ed Sheeran for caving to the demands of Robert Kraft, but why aren't people even more upset at Kraft for making the demands in the first place? Where are the boycotts of Patriots games? What about other concerts at his stadium?
