Bird of the Day, theme 'Herons & Egrets'

natureSep 7, 202627515,500

Bird of the Day is a daily community prompt with today’s theme #Herons&Egrets, calling for any heron or egret shot and an alternate theme #Borbs for chubby birds. Posts show morning and golden-hour photography, close-up watchful portraits, and birds interacting with water and light, with playful or calm poses. Concrete examples in the gallery include a Great Blue Heron at sunrise in the Gilbert Riparian Area, a Black-crowned Night Heron pictured standing quietly, and a Snowy Egret actively fishing and reflecting in the water. Look for images of cattle egrets on green banks, a bare-throated tiger-heron from Costa Rica, and Tri-coloured Heron sightings under the same hashtag #Herons&Egrets.

A grey heron standing on the shore of a suburban lake lit up by the low slung noon day sun. The sun is so low here in Winter that noon looks like 7am in the Summer.

Wonderful pic. It’s so interesting that these bird are found on the creek hunting for fish at our cabin in Oak Creek Canyon (near Sedona), at the pond at the golf course in Svottsdale, and in Fountain Hills at the lake with the big fountain.

Ricardo Vieira1

Congratulations. Such a wonderful work.

#Birds #Heron Atlantic Birding @atlanticbirding.bsky.social says today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Herons&Egrets; any Heron or Egret shot. This Great Blue Heron is super excited for a sunny long weekend.

A large bird on a sunny day, against a background of dark blue waters reflecting green rushes. The mostly grey bird has all of its feathers fluffed up making it seem 10 x the normal size. It has a piercing yellow eye, formidable pointed grey beak, a charcoal cap & white cheek.

He/she looks so beautiful! This bird actually reminds me of when Arthur turns into a bird in The Sword in the Stone.

Morning & Happy Monday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Herons&Egrets; any Heron or Egret shot Alt. is #Borbs; any bird that looks round, chubby, spherical etc. - Grey Heron on a riverbank - close up of a large , round Dunnock #birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography

A Grey Heron sitting on a riverbank. The bird is left of centre of frame, looking right so that its right side is visible.
It hand along, sharp, orange beak, darker on top near the head. I had a white head with a large, dark stripe across the eye, ending is a crest at the back of the head. Its neck is tucked into its body and is a greyish white. Its back and wings are a light grey, with a darker grey at the edges of the wings. Its legs and tail are obscured by a mound of exposed riverbed in the foreground. The background is of the river, which has a brown tinge but is clear enough to see a sandy bottom near the bird, darker elsewhere.

Good morning AB ☕️ Great photos and themes! Thank you very much 🙏😊

Love these two, AB. The Heron looks resigned while the Dunnock has an air of self-satisfied disdain about it.

Taking Sam out but I will be back to help AB with #BirdOfTheDay #Borbs; any bird that looks round, chubby, spherical etc. #birds #photography #ForJanet #ECK #MinimalMonday

A close-up portrait of a European robin perched on a slender branch, its bright orange-red breast and face contrasting beautifully with its soft brown back and wings. The robin gazes to the left with a bright, alert eye, while the softly blurred green and earthy background creates a natural, tranquil setting.
